Poll: Gillibrand Narrowly Trails Potential 2010 Democratic Primary Challenger
A new Quinnipiac poll of New York suggests that despite her recent efforts to nail down Democratic support, appointed Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is not the frontrunner against a possible primary challenge in 2010 -- in fact, she's running slightly behind, with a high undecided figure.
The numbers: Rep. Carolyn Maloney 27%, Gillibrand 23%, labor activist Jonathan Tasini 4% -- and "undecided" at 44%. The margin of error is ±3%.
Maloney is not officially in the race, but all indications are that she is highly likely to challenge Gillibrand in the primary.

Wow, I didn't realize Maloney would be doing that well with out even announcing. I heard she's trying to get Trippi and Penn on her strategy team. She seems to have a real shot if she goes for it.

With all due respect to Maloney I have to go with Gillibrand all the way. She hasn't done ONE THING to prove she isn't a progressive. She is doing fantastic at the moment and I wuold hope you all support her as well.

Can you trust her though?
Last week she came out, supposedly, with an appeal against DADT, much of which I agreed with, but how is it that she was so absent from the DADT and LGBT debate as a congresswoman (the lowest Human Rights Campaign rating of any NY Democrat), then expect a complete embrace of issues counter to her previous record to be received as anything but disingenuous?
Sure it's a flip flop, that happens all the time, but is there more to it than that? I'd rather have someone go against the flow and be principled and outspoken on the issues than have someone who's malleable enough to change their issues with the prevailing political wind.
