Poll: Majority Of Illinois Voters Believe Burris Likely Committed Pay-To-Play Politics For Appointment

A new Rasmussen poll finds that Sen. Roland Burris' (D-IL) political standing in Illinois is bad -- extremely, really, very bad -- with a majority of voters believing he engaged in pay-to-play politics to win his appointment.

Among likely Illinois voters, only 13% say he should run for a full term in 2010, to 74% who say he should not. If he does run, only 6% say they'll definitely vote for him, to 61% who say they'll definitely vote against him.

This question is particularly bad for Burris: "To win his appointment to the United States Senate, how likely is it that Roland Burris was involved in unethical pay to play politics?" The numbers are 50% very likely, 27% somewhat likely, 9% not very likely, and 2% not at all likely.

I spent a long time pondering this issue and have come to the conclusion - "Well duh!!!"

How much for my vote? ;-P

matyra: Co-sign "hell yea".

Do we have party ID breakouts on that question? I know if I were a Republican, I'd be hoping like hell Burris runs in 2010.

If he runs, he'll be primaried and be lucky to finish 3rd.

user-pic

He should finish sixth in a three person race. And I've known of a number of clearly crooked politicians I liked (often because of their opposition, I think.)

Does Burris have ANY redeeming features? I don't even like him as a representative of those of us who are on Medicare.

I say dump him because once thre "ROD" trial begins he'll be a huge disaster for the democrats!

Given the total (not absolute but very broad) media bias against him it's no wonder that people aren't happy with his appearance.

Given the actual evidence against him, it's just weird.

Given what he's accomplished for IL, it is unsurprising.

I caught a lot of hate here at TPM for calling Burris an unethical scumbag at the time of his "appointment' and so where are all his supporters now? ...crickets ..... crickets ....

Soooo, any ideas of what will get etched into his mausoleum?

Here's one:

Beloved State Senator -- heroically and unselfishly answered to call to replace the office of some guy who got to be President. Defused the crisis of a deposed governor -- and all-around go-to guy when things get tough.

I know, I know....it's long, but he has a huge effing stone, and an ego to match!

Who can do better? How about Haiku?

I had to step up
Blogojevich named a price
I said yes, but lied

Way to subtle for the guy!

I was just watching a replay of "The Fugitive" with Harrison Ford. In the scene where he is marching in the St Patrick's Day Parade in Chicago, guess who has a walk-on? I SWEAR it is Roland Burris!

I wonder what he got paid for that?
