Poll: Public Overwhelmingly Says Sotomayor Not Racist, And Empathy Is Important
A new Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll suggests that two key right-wing talking points against Sonia Sotomayor, which they've worked hard to get into the collective public mind, have in fact...totally failed.
"Based on what you know or have heard about Sonia Sotomayor do you think she is a racist?" The numbers: Yes 8%, No 61%. Even among Republicans, the number is only Yes 19%, No 28%.
"Do you think empathy is an important characteristic for a Supreme Court Justice to possess or not?" The numbers: Yes 52%, No 29%.

I swear, Republicans really don't have a clue!! Who can argue that empathy is a bad thing?

I once also heard that being a judge first was also a good quality for a Supreme Court Justice to possess. Of course that didn't matter for Republican Harriet Miers.

The 29% who say empathy is not important must be Republican. I myself want a jdge who can nderstand where the other is coming from. Only a erson who has lived in a ivory tower would be clueless. That is why I did not want a wite male nominated. No offense to be made, but really, they have been top dog since the founding of this country. Time to step aside.
