San Diego Sheriffs Launch Probe Into Raid At Democratic Candidate's Fundraising Event

The Los Angeles Times reports that the San Diego Sheriff's Department is now undertaking a review of a raid over the weekend against a fundraiser for Francine Busby, a Democratic candidate for the 50th Congressional District.

A neighbor made a noise complaint against the event, and this neighbor is also suspected of being the same man who heckled the event with anti-gay remarks shortly before the complaint was made. Other neighbors told the local media that there was no noise problem. After the officers arrived, attendees ended up being pepper-sprayed and a hostess was arrested.

In an interview with TPM, Busby said the noise complaint was not legitimate and was based on the neighbor's political agenda, and she blamed the arresting officer for the violence that resulted.

"We cannot take action based on media accounts and will conduct a thorough inquiry to include interviews of witnesses at the fund-raising event," said Undersheriff Bill Gore -- who as it turns out will become the full sheriff effective this Friday, upon the retirement of his predecessor.

Want an explanation for this? Look no further than the picture of these morons in their army costumes posing in front of their helicopter. Maybe if they spent less time pretending to be a paramilitary unit itching to use their toys they'd find ways to use appropriate force.

Don't hold your breath for justice. An example: While I was attending SDSU, a member of the San Diego Chargers football team was pulled over late at night for driving the wrong way down a four-lane highway with his lights off -- and drunk. The next day, the officer's citation was posted on the station bulletin board with a note from the officer's superior that the officer showed "poor judgment" in writing the ticket.

And, funny, when our college parties got too loud, all we got was one cop who asked us to "please" turn it down. Not 8 squad cars, not a helicopter, no choke hold, no pepper spray, no arrests. I fell slighted!

How about the Calif AG or the DOJ looking into this? Does anybody seriously believe the San Diego Sheriff investigation will go any further than a gallon or two of whitewash?

Yet another reason why I will never move back to San Diego. And regarding that photo, why would the SD Sheriff ever want to use such a photo? It reeks of militarism and weapon porn. Those guys don't look like they want to protect and serve. They look like they want to use their hardware.

That aside, can we please get someone better than Busby to run? She's already lost against Bilbray AND Duke Cunningham. We need fresh blood and Busby is not a good campaigner.
