Sessions: We Will Question Sotomayor on Ricci Case
Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), the ranking GOP member on the Judiciary Committee, said yesterday that the New Haven firefighters case will come up at Sonia Sotomayor's confirmation hearing.
This case sharpens our focus on Judge Sotomayor's troubling speeches and writings, which indicate...that personal experiences and political views should influence a judge's decision. That theory is a breathtaking departure from the proper role of the American judge and will clearly be the subject of questioning at the upcoming hearing. This case will only raise more questions in the minds of the American people concerning Judge Sotomayor's commitment to treat each individual fairly and not as a member of a group.

And as I said before, if she answers (as she's pretty strongly hinted previously) that she AGREES WITH the ruling but that only the Supreme Court and not a lower court has the power to reach this result, it will be great fun to see the look on Session's face.

sotomayor can (and probably will) make sessions and the others look like fools (it won't be difficult to do). but it won't really matter. the audience the republicans are putting on a show for aren't typically encumbered by facts or reality. what's left of the republican base is an easily hoodwinked, demagogued, and generally manipulated bunch who want nothing more than to fall in lockstep against whatever fears these d-bags (and their buddies at fox) are peddling. tell 'em up is down and that's good enough for them.
sotomayor easily wins confirmation behind wide public support while the republicans shore up their base to spite the center. it's a foolproof strategy to make the party irrlevant.

Hey Sessions: if you're so concerned about "the questions in the mind of the American people" then I assume you'll be standing with the %75 of Americans who support a public healthcare option whose only question is "if %75 of the American people support the public option why doesn't my government representative represent the will of the American people".
