The Minnesota Senate Race -- Covering Four Seasons

As we all await a verdict from the Minnesota Supreme Court in the seemingly never-ending disputed 2008 Senate race between former Republican Sen. Norm Coleman and Democratic comedian Al Franken, the Associated Press points out an interesting piece of information about this ongoing dispute: It has now covered all four seasons.

The disputed result began in the fall of 2008, then continued into winter 2008-2009, then into spring 2009 -- and with yesterday's summer solstice, it's now gone into the summer months, too.

So the big question now is whether it will end during the summer, with a clear verdict from the courts and the seating of a U.S. Senator -- or whether we'll be headed into this autumn with the fight still going.

Up here Minnesota way, those four seasons would be almost-winter, winter, end-of-winter, and road construction season.

Give it up, Norm.

Question: Anyone know what US and/or MN law might say in regards to Franken being able to server his full term once he is in office?

I'll bet from now on this will be a common occurance. Just think, 2012... 35 contested Senate seats and 342 contested House seats.

Because, after all, it's all about them, not us anymore. Voters and common citizens are nothing more than a nuisance to contend with. Our needs are no longer relevent. Keeping ones self in power is THE ONLY goal... IMHO

I fear the thrill is gone with the Coleman campaign. Yeah it was fun for the wingers to get all giddy for Coleman when things were still up in the air and changing, but with each thumping loss (and that is all there has been for Coleman in this process -- can anyone point to a single major point his team has "won"?) the gas kept leaking out of the balloon. Now, pretty much everyone has recognized that it isn't going to happen for Norm: no fraud, no voter manipulation, no magic ballots, no nothing.

It's down to stale donuts and cold coffee and the only plans being made are how to wrap the thing up in the best possible light. Norm will probably take the fall, claiming that he is stopping "for Minnesota" or some such BS, allowing the Cornyns and the like to say it is a shame he didn't continue but that it is his call, etc. Leaves them room to continue to claim Franken is illegitimate and so on to stroke the fringe base and then move on. There might even be a pathetic try at a Federal lawsuit, but no one's heart will be in it and the fundraiser types will realize they are just throwing money down a rathole. It is over, and everybody knows it, but it will be embarassing to just switch the lights off so nobody's done it yet. Even the wingnuts can't get any steam up anymore; the horse is so long dead there isn't much satisfaction from beating what's left.

Wait a minuet, why in the world would you waste a good horse tail, I mean come on you could use it later to pin the tail on the ass in another close election couldn't you? I mean Normie's going to run for gov ain't he? an arse alwayyyys needs a well groomed tail eith a pin in it.

When I went to college in Minnesota there was a debate on whether there were two seasons or three. Two was winter and road construction and three was July, August and Winter. Norm seems to becoming a man for all seasons when in fact his dragging out of the contest in view of his initial comments post election makes him a man beyond reason. He wouldn't be the first and wouldn't be the last politician in that category.

Others have touched on it, but I think it's important to stress this point: November counts as "winter" here. "Fall" weather in Minnesota really only exists in September and October, and many places have their first frost just after kids go back to school.
