Americans United Ad: Climate Bill Creates Jobs "Not In India Or China, But Right Here"

Americans United for Change has this new TV ad in the D.C. media market -- essentially aimed at the political and journalistic classes -- praising the energy bill that was passed in the House and now faces a tough fight in the Senate:

The ad gives a patriotic fervor to the bill, focusing on the development of clean-energy jobs in this country. "Last month, Congress met President Obama's challenge to create millions of clean energy jobs," the announcer says, "not in India or China, but right here, in America."

great...but I'm not sure creating alternative forms of energy is a uniquely American solution...cuz...well...the rest of the world is kind of already doing that...we are kind of...late to that game?

I think generally the phrase "uniquely American solution" is used as code for "we'll take what Europe is doing, but water it down so it isn't nearly as effective"...e.g. our "uniquely American solution" to health care reform.

To compete in a tough global economy, and contribute to a sound environment, one of the most vital elements will be increased efficiency. Over the last 25 years, the U.S. economy has grown 110%, but energy consumption has grown by only 24%. Advocate for the operation of renewable energy projects by signing the Energy & Environment Petition at http://www.friendsoftheuschamber.com/takeaction/index.cfm?ID=41.

The above link to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce may appeal to anyone hoping to thwart climate mitigation efforts that include major reductions in carbon emissions. The posting is deceptive, therefore, in emphasizing renewable energy, since the organization itself is a strong advocate for oil and gas exploration, neither of which is a renewable energy source.

Those of us with a science background and a solid understanding of climate science principles will agree on the need for efficiency increases. However, to maintain global temperatures within tolerable limits will additionally require intensive conservation efforts combined with substantial reduction in fossil fuel consumption.

I tend to judge the credibility of a source and the strength of its position by the honesty with which it makes its case. In the above posting, the need to falsify the intent behind the comments signifies a weakness with both moral and factual dimensions.

Let me guess, just like Obama's executive order regarding Federally funded projects, only Union contractors will be allowed to refit our homes. I think he is deliberately pushing our buttons to such a limit, that when we refuse to let Federal Inspectors into our homes to see if we have adequate insulation, and then he sends in Union Contractors who will overcharge ...obviously it would have to be prevailing rate, and then when we can't, or won't go along with their program, they'll call us homegrown terrorist, and put is into the recently vacated cells Gitmo while the previous residents of Gitmo are enjoying Bermuda. Then, maybe, will give us TARP type funds, penalize us if we don't "share" and then put us in Gitmo when we can't foot the bill. What a guy, what a Country.
