Committee for Justice: Sotomayor, Like Bill Ayers, Is An Unrepentant Terrorist
This hearkens back to some news we brought you as the anti-Sotomayor campaigns were just warming up on the right. Do you remember Curt Levey and the Committee for Justice? Levey's the guy who went on TV and offered up race- and gender-based attacks on Sotomayor, then turned around and expressed shock that other conservatives had gone so far as to call her a racist.
Now his group is running this ad:
In the spot, Sotomayor is compared to conservative bogeyman Bill Ayers, and is alleged to have "led a group supporting violent, Puerto Rican terrorists." Sotomayor was a Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund board member, and from there, I suppose, it's only a hop, skip, and a jump to leading a support group for terrorists. Early last month, Levey said he "underestimated the degree to which a few conservatives would say a few extreme things, and that would be characterized as what all conservatives think." Then his group made this ad.

What happened to the "Report Abuse" link - it doesn't work!
Dude, get a f**kin' life. Move out of your parent's basement, get some clothes on and get a job.

I just sent a note to the Powers That Be asking that DonDavis be muzzled and reporting the five spam posts in the cafe. They've been very responsive so far regarding the cafe spam so maybe we'll get some action on this numbskull soon.

This will weaken what little, albeit misguided, traction the association of Obama to Bill Ayers had imho.
It's like the cry wolf story. Over play your hand and people tend to tune you out.

Yeah, I thought much the same when I saw Brian's post. Bill Ayers didn't work then. How does it now? Totally out of ideas they are.

Wait, did they forget to work ACORN in there somewhere? They're slipping.

It will with 80% of the electorate. But they've already figured out it's no big deal.
The last 10 - 20% (aka "the Republican Base", "Real America", Michele Bachmann supporters) are gonna eat this up. I've got a couple of dittoheads in my family, the sort who've read every Coulter book. I have the misfortune of knowing several others. They're pretty impervious to logical reasoning.

I've always been puzzled as to why Coulter writes books. The folks she's playing to can't read so what's the point I wonder?

It's because her fanbase (mostly men) thinks she's hot. Same with Palin.
Personally, I think she looks like an anorexic Mr. Ed -- do genuine women really have such a pronounced adam's apple?
Go figure.

I've never thought she was attractive, because her inner ugliness shines through so easily and quickly. I'm sure she'd be physically attractive if she didn't have hate and disdain oozing out her pores.

The republican members of the hearing committee are struggling to drive a conservative wedge into an otherwise stale argument of 16 years past!
Nikpiks of old white men --some of whom are proven racists and were denied a judgeship..Small men and small minds with irelevent points!
Get on with it...
amusing that Senators beg for longer -therefore more weighty opinions--when they write law that even they do not read or understand.
The Supremes did not reverse on Ricci--read the brief---the question was presented differently! It went to a what would work better in future!

Hell yes. God love the Rethuglican Partei for allowing loons like these (not to mention Senator Beauregard) to be a big part of the partei's public image. With "friends" like that they don't need enemies.

Wasting money is one thing that the Party of Corporate America has no fear of. They've got their fingers in the pockets of every Chamber of Commerce throughout the land and "Mo' money, mo' money, mo' money" is what they're all about. For a perfect example, see W's Treasury Raid & Bank Bailout of '08.

As the monopoly on power enjoyed by Caucasian-Christian males over the last several centuries of Western Civilization goes on the ashheap of history, it's inevitable that many of them will not willingly give up "the good old days" when their rule was unquestioned and they could dole out crumbs to the "inferior" races and "weaker" sex as they wished.
To ease their sense of loss of entitlement and reduce the chance that they will react violently, it's therefore advisable for those in the forefront of the change to a more representative society be very "clean" (Biden's misspeak on Obama during the campaign actually spoke volumes), "nice", suitably respectful and unthreatening to the degree possible (of course their appearance alone makes them a threat). It seems analogous to the introduction of black players into Major League Baseball - one of the primary reasons Jackie Robinson was chosen to be first was because he was "clean" and could withstand the abuse from fans and some white players without losing his cool.
Whether or not Sodomayor is racist or unqualified are only convenient excuses for the GOP Caucasian-Christian males grilling her - if they couldn't hang those things on her they'd find something else, that's the way the game works. Her ultimate crime is that she symbolizes a future that scares them and their supporters, one in which they no longer dominate.

The big question with this ad is whether the Democrats will use it to beat up the Republicans the way the Republicans used the MoveOn ad. Make every Republican answer the question, "Do you denounce the ad by this conservative group to calling Sotomayor a terrorist?" Just like with the General Betray-Us ad, have a damn resolution. Make the press go on about it for a while.
