Ensign Says He'll Seek Re-Election

Despite admitting to having an affair and having his parents pay off his mistress, Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) yesterday said he plans to stay in office -- and run for re-election in 2012.

Ensign told the Las Vegas Sun he's been getting emails and phone calls from supporters urging him to stay put. Those supporters, he said, include senators on both sides of Senate leadership.

"I fully plan on running for reelection," Ensign said. "I'm going to work to earn their respect back."

He quoted his supporters as saying, "Keep your head up. This thing will pass."

Sure, Ensign, this thing will pass. The C Street "Family" will see you through. Remember, you're one of God's "chosen few." The few, the proud, the wealthy and privileged.

What's a little infidelity, hush money and hypocrisy among friends?

Thank you, Jesus! :)

user-pic

I hope he's had a chin/neck job by then. That waddle is out of control!!

user-pic

Of course he will. He Walks With God.

user-pic

Have these bozo's been hypnotized by evangelicals or something? I swear they must be brainwashed. There is no other explanation as to why they don't make a lick of sense.

user-pic

It really does defy all logic doesn't it. I think there is a nice jewish word to describe it - CHUTZPAH. I hope he runs and I hope he gets creamed - maybe then he will realize he's done.

user-pic

Baptism is enough.

user-pic

Is that what they're calling waterboarding now?

user-pic

I admire Ensign. Most people don't have the degree of intellectual flexibility needed to be a complete moral, religious and political hypocrite.

user-pic

"Those supporters, he said, include senators on both sides of Senate leadership."

If I was in a Democratic leadership position; I would certainly encourage him to "hang in there".
LMAO

user-pic

Heh, indeedy.

user-pic

And so Nevada will become a blue state with both senators from the Democratic party.

Here's the real question. Is the republican senatorial campaign committee so foolish to believe they can run this guy and win?

Hard to believe.

user-pic

Yeah I think they are that foolish, but foolish like a cat. I really believe that many of the party leaders in the GOP are symbolized by the pursuit of having their cake and eating it too. I mean really back when Bush II was running against Kerry (not saying he was a perfect candidate) he had sympathizers within the party call Kerry a traitor to his soldiers for having a perspective about the war that he saw as veteran and purple heart recipient. And the GOP ate this shit up, and many independents found themselves paused in reflection of what they believed. John Kerry was a frickin Purple heart recipient and the GOP painted their candidate as some kind of symbol of what is right about the military. Yeah the GOP has Chutzpah, it's got big enough balls for the entire country, but we are avoiding the reality which they create for themselves. If I am to believe in Reagan Conservative principals then I must base my political decisions on 2 key foundations of the party; small government and fiscal conservatism. By any metric you use neither Reagan, Bush I or Bush II did either yet the GOP base seems to keep on supporting the candidates regardless. This is the memo to the GOP, this is what the Dem's have to keep saying. The GOP is so corrupt and has been for so long that the supporters of the party do not even care if their principals are met, they just want to win. I mean fuck GWB entire government service is basically built around a philosophy which tells him that government is inefficient and unnecessary at best. Get they don't believe government can work and yet they continue to run for office to run the government so it can't work and that is what they do.

user-pic

Okay, I just got it. He's going to run on the "Sarah" party ticket.

user-pic

"Keep your head up"?

I thought that was the issue to begin with.

user-pic

you've hit the nail on the....head.

user-pic

Ouch!

user-pic

To all the nay-sayers I say, don't be so sure. The one thing the Republicans excel at, which the Democrats do not, is not caving in, even when they are wrong. He could very well win re-election. And do not forget that the base of his party, as he, the Righteous, will ALWAYS forgive one of their own...even if it is "dead girl, live boy" scenario.

This is a "game" that the Republicans, unfortunately, are much better at playing.

user-pic

Worked for Vitter (so far). Seems to be working for Sanford (so far).

user-pic

and, in all fairness, it would have worked for Billy boy if he coulda run for a third term

user-pic

There is more to come on this story and this is just Ensign talking shit. The GOP is making a huge mistake in not dumping him and having a new Senator in place for 2012. Keep backing him and we'll have a chance for a pick up!

user-pic

The Senator will be revising and extending his remarks in the not too distant future.

user-pic

Are his parents behind him on this? They got their fortune by taking suckers' money in casinos. He's hoping to get re-elected by taking suckers' votes.

user-pic

Hey, well ! I mean, Nevada is the state with the whorehouses, right ? So, he fits right in, don't ya think ?

user-pic

When the mob has invested serious money in getting this clown in position to become president only to see him self-destruct over sex, you can bet he was given a choice: stay where we put you or we'll beat you to death with baseball bats.

Oh, sorry, I forgot... the mob doesn't exist in Nevada anymore. Right. Uh-huh.

user-pic

This is really no surprise. Ensign literally believes he has been chosen by God to a position of wealth and power. And all the deluded, but wealthy and powerful residents of C Street have been telling him for years that this is true.

user-pic

Lindsey Graham has been caught runnning a gay Nazi child abduction porn syndicate. He also spies for the North Koreans. Consequently the South Carolina Republican Party expects him to win with a comfortable margin in his next Senate race.

user-pic

Right Wingers always forgive their own. When I asked a Republican from South Carolina what he thought about Sanford, Ensign, Foley, Craig, Nay, Vitter and DeLay, he said "at least they had values in the first place that they betrayed."

user-pic

Sex with a friend's wife, paying her off with an overpaid job and another one for her son, having mommy and daddy pay her off - 'attaboy'.

Fooling around with an intern - impeachment.

Republican hypocrisy - priceless.

user-pic

I guess what I don't get about the Ensign affair is, well, basically the whole thing. Not the straying, but the aftermath.

It just seems that more must have happened than Ensign refusing to stay away from the other woman. That's grounds for nearly $100,000? I don't think so. Either she and her husband were deliberately extorting Ensign or something more malevolent happened, like rape.
