Inhofe Ridicules "The Clown From Minnesota"

Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) had some kind words for the newest member of the U.S. Senate, Al Franken.

"I'll tell you what a lot of people are thinking," Inhofe told the Tulsa World, discussing the decreasing likelihood of successful Republican filibusters, "and that is it looks like things are going to be over and we are going to get the clown from Minnesota."

"I didn't mean to be disrespectful. I don't know the guy, but ... for a living he is a clown,'' Inhofe added. "That's what he does for a living."

Franken was, indeed, a funny-man for a living. So what's Inhofe's excuse?

And by the way, folks, the Republican Party celebrates as their greatest hero a former actor who starred in a movie in which his character became the adoptive father of a chimpanzee. There's nothing wrong or disqualifying about acting alongside a chimp, of course -- it sounds kind of fun, actually. But the complete double-standard, and the seemingly total unawareness of it, are pretty striking.

So says the ignorant climate denialist whose IQ is about 1/5 of Franken's.

Speaking of clowns, what an assclown.

So what's Inhofe's excuse?

He seems to think that shoving his head up his ass qualifies as humor. Outside of frat parties, not so much...

LOL!

No empathy, no self-awareness, no humility, no character and so sense of humor: truly the party of No.

Inhofe only calls Franken a clown because he thinks it sounds funny when someone uses big words.

Which is worse, Inhofe? To be a clown or a joke like you?

user-pic

I think Inhofe probably doesn't realize that these days, a comedian can speak a greater truth than most of the "experts" you see these days. Inhofe probably thinks that comedians are people who just tell knock knock jokes and run into glass doors. The profession is really very different from what it used to be when he was young.

and went on to blast national debt right through the sky, stole missiles, smuggled them to sell to our only real enemy, kept the money to illegally fund the coups that were as regular as sunrise in central and south America for some reason, lied to cover it up, and became a rallying cry for the stupid movement.

The same idiot is a hero to too many people.

Amen to that and very well said!!

For those who have never seen the chimp movie, Reagan talking to the chimp sounds exactly like Reagan talking to the Great American Public.

user-pic

So true.
The list includes Stewart, Colbert, Letterman, Maher, etc.
Not however Dennis Miller.

user-pic

Another forgettable nugget from the Poster Boy for Inbreeding. Or is it Fetal Alcohol Syndrome? Or both?

user-pic

LOL! I was just wondering that same thing. Look at those eyes, baby!

user-pic

I'm sorry, Senator, but the phrase "the clown from Minnesota" has already been taken (and embodied) by Michelle Bachmann.

user-pic

And she's not about to give up the red nose and fright wig any time soon.

user-pic

So true!! LOL

user-pic

Sorry, but he's wrong.

Al Franken was a comedian.

Jim Inhofe is a clown.

user-pic

Did the jackass from Oklahoma have anything else to say?

user-pic

Imhofe. Geeeez. I just did a blog on Oklahoma. ha

Like Cal Damage says above me, Al Franken was a comedian.

Imhofe is a clown. ha!!

user-pic

I feel bad about calling these peoples clowns as there are also the true clowns who are funny and do a lot of good, like visiting hospitals and making all the sick and sicker laugh real laugh.
That's why it is an insult tocall Beck a clown.

And an other thing: If Reagan had became an A-class actor America would be different.
The big studios decided that his head was too small for A-class actor and that is how he got into politics with Nancy being his shadow president.

user-pic

As a matter of fact, one could say Reagan was the supporting actor in that movie with the chimp. How about them apples?

user-pic

Think about it folks. If this idiot,Inhofe, can get elected, well the people he represents are, well just to be polite, very, very clueless.

user-pic

"I wouldn't want to join anu club that would have Inhofe as a member."

The American Humorist whose body of work reminds me most of Al Franken's comedic form was from Oklahoma, and at the peak of his popularity in the 1930's -- Will Rogers.

Inhofe needs to study the influence Rogers had in print and on the radio in the 1930's -- far more influence on popular opinion than any Senator from Oklahoma in those times and now. It is much more likely that any American History of that period will cite Will Rogers, include some of his quotes and all, than any other Oklahoman so as to get to the core of what people "really" felt in those dust bowl days, not only in Oklahoma, but nationally.

Truth tellers come in many forms -- Shakespeare frequently used the role of court wit to carry the truth message. And the Senate these days badly needs it's wit, and one of the things I hope for, as Franken's Senate role evolves, is that he will create that role within the parameters rules of that August Body demand.

user-pic

So -- how do we change public opinion in Oklahoma?

What is their media like?

Sometimes simply replacing one idiot with the next one limits the influence they can accumulate -- any one know if there is any hope of a primary -- preferably by a sane Republican -- against Inhofe?

user-pic

The hypocrisy is amazing. And I expect this kind of idiocy from Inhofe.

This from a party with such great entertainers as Hall of Famer Jim Bunning, the late Sonny Bono's wife and the Governator in CA. Unlike these 3 at least Franken is informed and articulate, and he's funnier than Dennis Miller, that's for sure.
