Mark Up To Continue On Energy And Commerce Committee
Here's the latest--though not to say final--word on the status of health care negotiations in the House. If you were wondering why the Energy and Commerce Committee would go live with a district-by-district analysis of the impact health care reform will have on its members, that's because it now looks like Waxman will not be fast-tracking the legislation by bypassing the panel altogether.
After several hours of chaos, it seems as if there's been something of a rapprochement between leaders and Blue Dogs and the mark-up process will continue next week. But as today's developments should make abundantly clear, with tensions this high anything can change.

I have no idea if this is a positive or negative development at this point.
Totally confused.

Something must have been resolved for this to happen. They wouldn't go forward to have a shoot out, live on C-Span.

I think Waxman called their bluff. If he took it to the floor, it would pass and they'd have no input.

I also think Mike Ross went all in with nothing but a pair of deuces. His "votes" were coming from the voices in his head.

We shouldn't discount the possibility that the reporting has been a tad garbled, what with all the frantic and frenetic activity. Not criticizing. TPM has never been more on its game than its been lately and especially on this beat. But when stuff with this many moving parts starts moving this fast, the reporting [WARNING: METAPHOR MIXING AHEAD! PROCEED AT OWN RISK!] can get a little "six blind men describing an elephant."

Say what you will about Baucus and Reid (most of it justified!) but at least they keep their intramural crap private
House side ever the low rent district of the Hill

Give me the House of Commons over the nobility any day. At least Waxman gets it done. Pretty soon the Senate will be recessing for tea and crumpets.

No, they won't -- because in the upper house, teeth are much less firmly attached to gums.
