Mixed Signals To Finance Committee From Harry Reid?
This afternoon, Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid met with Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee--not to apprise them that they've run out of time. But to reassure them that efforts to achieve bipartisan consensus on health care reform would continue.
Two possible explanations come to mind. First, that Reid approached Republicans gently today, but with the same resolve not to compromise reform efforts. And second, that earlier reports of Reid's sudden hard line overstated things a bit. I've placed a call to Reid's office for some clarification.

Sen. Baucus put Reid up to this little talk to take the heat off him. Baucus wants to save face w/ the GOP and all the weight he has been throwing around that he is in charge of health care reform. Baucus wanted the repukes to go after Reid.

“It was a very constructive meeting, and bipartisan talks are going to continue — and not continue under a very hard timeline,” Grassley said.
In other words, Republicans appear to have gotten what they wanted from Reid: a continuation of the "bipartisan" bullcrap and all the time they want to derail the process permamently. Surprise!

If you've ever seen a ferret, you'll know that they can twist in ways that make you think that there's no spine anywhere in there, even though they are mammals. I was going to ask if Reid's a ferret, but that would be demeaning for those little furry guys.

Hah! There does seem to be some twisting going on. Too bad it isn't arm twisting by Harry.

I wonder if any Republicans will start jumping on board if they realize that health care reform is going to pass with or without them.
