Poll: Despite High Overall Approval Rating, Obama Slips On Health Care
A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows that, despite a high overall approval rating, President Obama's leadership on health care reform has lost favor with the public.
Obama's overall approval rating as President remains a high 59 percent, though below 60 for the first time since the Post and ABC began tracking it. In April, his approval/disapproval on health care was 57/29. Now it's 49/44. Despite the falling numbers, though, the public still trusts Obama on the issue over Republicans by a wide margin.

So is there still anyone out there who thinks we can afford to give the insurance companies and for-profit hostital industry the entire August recess to fearmonger on this issue? Harry and Louise have reported for duty on the swiftboat and they're ready to sail it down the Potomac and shoot the shit out of health care reform.

Harry and Louise are on board this time - the "actors" Harry Johnson and Louise Caire Clark have cut an ad in favor of BHO's plan:

I still agree with your sentiment, tho.

I meant "Harry and Louise" in the "Jack Bauer isn't a real person" sense.

He's not? I thought he was one of Cheney's top advisors on interrogation techniques.

I understand - the puppetmasters behind the original Harry & Louise are still a force to be dealt with. Even if Harry & Louise have cut their own strings.

I'm sorry, but I can't believe any poll, especially the scandal ridden WashPo.

Co-sign. As I said to myself after the scandal broke at the WashPo, we were always correct to watch the media with a skeptical eye. But now there is reason to never trust anything the Post publishes ever again.

I'm not sure that waiting until after the August recess will be too good for Congress. People are tired of seeing Congress unable to get anything done. Yes, it gives the insurance agencies more time but it also gives progressives weeks to go after the moderates who caused the delay. The media will turn on Congress if they don't make it happen. Right now they are pointing out every little bump and obstacle with negative stories, but if Congress fails to do this before the recess the coverage will probably become brutal about D.C.'s ineffectiveness for the regular folks. With unemployment so high, Democrats will get hit hard if they fail on health care.
