Poll: Just As Last Week, Public Still Overwhelmingly Supports Public Option
A new Quinnipiac poll finds that a large majority of Americans would like to see government increase its involvement in health care. Sixty-nine percent of those surveyed said they support a public option.
Interestingly--though perhaps predictably--most of this support seems to be in the abstract. A majority of those asked (53%) most suggested they'd rather be covered by private insurance than by a government-run option--reflective, perhaps, of the reality that most Americans are already insured and most of them are pleased with the quality of their health care. But they nonetheless want other citizens to have the option. Twenty-eight percent of respondents said they want government-run health insurance.

Ok.
According to Quinnipiac, 69 per cent support a public option. According to the CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey, 51 per cent "President Obama's health care plan".

Looks like a lot of confusion to me. Not good.

There's always confusion in polls and issues. The same is very true for abortion rights. For the first time ever more people considered themselves pro-life than pro-choice, but an overwhelming majority wanted Roe left alone. Hardly a pro-life country if you ask me. The point is people support the public option and will have the choice to partake or not. It's called competition or capitalism depending on your preference.

You are confusing support for a public option and support for Obama's plan. The latter question is a good example of how truly ridiculous some polling can be.
Obama doesn't have a plan. He has stated the things he wants in the plan, they go beyond the public option.

"a lot of confusion"
Not if you compare the same question in both polls. From your link:
A government-run health insurance program is one of the most contentious features of the Obama health reform proposals, with Republicans suggesting that such a plan could force health care providers out of business, forcing Americans to switch doctors. The poll indicates such arguments may not be working.
"Two-thirds believe that the president's plan would allow them to see the same doctors they currently receive care from, and most say that their health insurance provider would not go out of business if Obama's plan is passed,"
Republican messaging, fail.

sure i'd rather be covered by a private plan than not have any health insurance at all.
i'd also rather have a job that paid for it or the left over income to pay for one myself.
maybe, i wish my pre-existing condition didn't preclude me from ever getting health insurance.
however, like millions of americans, i don't.
that's the crux.
do we, as americans, deny healthcare to millions because they can't afford it or get a job that offers it?
looks like the repuglicans and a significant portion of dems are comfortable placing the interests of insurance companies and health-profiteers over the life and death interests of their constituents.
why?
must be the money!

Those are their constituents. Just ask Sen. Joe Lieberman,(I-Conn.) The I stands for "Insurance Party".
