Spokeswoman: Gore Schiff Is Not Running For House

Karenna Gore Schiff will not run for Rep. Carolyn Maloney's (D-NY) seat, a Gore family spokeswoman confirms.

"Karenna Gore Schiff has no intention of running for the House of Representatives. She's currently working on a documentary and spending time as a full-time mom," Kalee Kreider told TPMDC.

Roll Call reported speculation this morning that Al Gore's oldest daughter was eyeing Maloney's seat. Maloney is reportedly planning a primary run against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in 2010.

This is good. I don't know much about the lady. She does seem to have a good liberal arts education and has worked as a "journalist" (in today's world, that can be a positive or a negative)and author. I am, however, more than tired of what has become a nascent political "CLASS".

American democracy was NEVER conceived to create political dynasties. Quite the opposite! There may have been prominent families, like the Lees which dominated Virginia. But the revolution was fought and won, to promote the ability of Everyman to contribute to society and to rise high in society on his (sorry ladies, but we're talking about the founding fathers) own merits, NOT those of his family. And that "Everyman" bears no resemblance to Sam/Joe the (not) Plumber.

I'm admiring of Al Gore and like him a lot. But whether it's political families, like the Bushes, the Clintons, the Gores, the Daleys, the Cheneys?!? the Kennedys; or "Media" families like the Krystals the Kagans, and Cokie Roberts, I've HAD IT with nepotism. If you want a good example of that, take a look at Kim Jong Il to see how that worked out. And now he wants to insert his worthless son into the position of Dear Leader. At least with that, we can empathize with the hapless population of N. Korea. We've already experienced our own "Junior" moment in American politics.

We need to broaden our horizons. Ruling families went out with the whale bone bustle and it would be the ultimate of intellectual laziness to allow them to ooze back into heedless, venal control.
