The Meme Spreads: Halperin Passes On Report Of Democrats' "$1.5 Trillion" Health Care Bill

We've seen it happen before: disinformation, disseminated for political reasons, becomes a talking point, and then, maybe, conventional wisdom. And there's a real risk of this happening with respect to the House's health care proposal.

Time's Mark Halperin is linking to this morning's Associated Press story, which repeats the claim--based on the claim of one anonymous Democratic aide--that the bill will cost $1.5 trillion. But the Congressional Budget Office--normally the arbiter of these things for reporters--says the bill will cost significantly less. One trillion dollars, specifically. And that's the number House health care leaders--and most reporters--cite on the record when asked.

Not the AP, though. They seem to be standing by their flimsy story. Flimsy or not, though, it's starting to take hold.

Keep the pressure up on the AP. Don't let those bozo's spread mis-information.

Hey! Good news. He changed it:

Comes as Education and Labor, Ways and Means are scheduled to vote Thursday on Democrats' $1 trillion plan.

While it's frustratingly par for the course to see the AP shilling for the right, I'd just like to say that even if it did cost 1.5 trillion in the long run it's still a bargain compared to the cost of maintaining the status quo.

Health care costs currently eat up 17 percent of our GDP. By 2016 that number will be something like 25, if the government doesn't step in now.

.....And when has Mark Halperin been right or accurate about anything????? Why this asshat has a job is beyond me....he is nothing more than an aging gay queen who does nothing but peddle idle gossip.

He can usually be found on Scarborough's show with a self satisfied smirk on his face...he brings nothing to any debate but his ego. He's another Dick Morris and you can't get any lower than that.
