Waxman Envisions Bill Passage 'By End Of This Year'

At the unveiling of the House's health care reform bill, Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman said he wants Congress enact legislation by the end of this year.

We'll have video for you shortly. But that pushes the ball back two and a half months from Obama's goal of signing a health care bill by mid-October, a month and a half after Congress returns from recess, and before it is set to take up a budget reconciliation bill.

Late update: You can see video below. Interestingly, Waxman also echoes the White House in suggesting that Congress ought not adjourn for recess until both the House and Senate have passed their health care bills.

Pass two versions in August.

Go to conference, argue and winge for a god-awful amount of time for some GD unknown reason.

Place on calendar and vote.

Dear Congress: Get off the GD comfy and cozy couch and pass this GD legislation. Really, Waxman, do you really need to drag this crap on ad nauseum? Set a better GD timetable and give the American voters and general public a better outcome. It's the reason Democrats were voted into Congress. Enact. Now.

Waxman and the dems only have a limited arsenal to expedite markup.

The minority has a number of ways to throw roadblocks in the process.

There is going to have to be extraordinary coordination among dems to strategically speed it through.
