I was a fundamentalist Christian during high school and a little bit of college. I'm glad I've left that life behind, but if you're quick to demonize this congresswomen, you need to understand what she's saying is very common.

I'm not saying it's right by any means, but having gone through that culture, I can at least understand it. It's really subconscious. You are making the decisions, not god. We (people in general) somehow separate our desires from...well...our desires and compartmentalize them. For the religious disciple, this process can get really interesting.

I would not like this type of person leading anything, but on the same token, she wouldn't want me, a secularist who believes we make the choices that shape our world and morality rather than a faceless god, to lead anything either.

And on both sides of this there is judgment. They may say they care for your soul when they tell you about Jebus, and they honestly might really believe they do care, but it's not about that. In the end, it's about pride; it's about wanting to be on the winning side: god's side.

I think some liberals are the same way, but I like to think, in general, most secular/liberals believe what they believe because they want society, all people, to be able to coexist as a whole. To that end, we see religion, more specifically fundamentalist religion, as being in opposition to that idea of peace and unity.

God Got Involved

Taking off on dickday's quote of the Bible via Jules Winfield of Inglewood in Pulp Fiction, I must let you know that God revealed certain information to me recently. He told me that he has become involved directly in the affairs of His Chosen People of the Second Coming, the Americans.

He came to His decision after a long period in which he allowed Satan and his minions to freely ply their scheme to subvert and destroy The City on the Hill by insinuating themselves into positions of temporal power within certain factions of one of the most important and best known of the earthly manifestations of God's Will, the Christian Church. God allowed the tools of Satan to use those church institutions, in a manner described so well by Dostoevsky in The Grand Inquisitor, to try to bring Satan to power on earth by turning the Christian Church against Christ.

God wanted to test his latter-day people, the Americans, like he tested the ancient Israelites with the Golden Calf, to see if they could stay true to his Plan for them through the most difficult trials He could impose upon them. Just as with the Israelites, when The Lord felt that enough of His People had passed the test of exercising His gifts to them of free will and rational thought by refusing to submit to the false claims of Divine Authority offered by Satan and his demons, despite their being cloaked in the trappings and regalia of His Church, He intervened to overthrow the priests of Baal then long ago and He has begun His Divine Intervention of The Second Coming now. As Jules put it, "God got involved."

He revealed to me that His first prophetic action to alert His Chosen people that the hour of their deliverance had come was Vice President Cheney's shooting and serious wounding of one of his major campaign funding sources in a hunting "accident". There are no accidents saith The Lord. His message to His People at that time was a single Word, "Behold!" Think upon this event deeply and you will see as I saw through His Words that His message to the world was there for all to see. This event was its own undeniable meaning to those who are pure of heart and love the right. "Thou shalt not take The Lord Thy God's Name in vain." God got involved.

He then began the extraordinary series of Congressional election victories in 2006 and 2008 in which the Democrats won 15 Senate seats and almost 60 House seats without losing one seat they held at the beginning of this skein. Finally after the regular election of 2008 had finished, The Lord allowed one Democratic seat, the most tainted of all the seats they held before the 2006 elections, Jefferson's in New Orleans, to fall to the Republicans as the exception that proved the rule. Only Divine Intervention could have allowed such an unimaginable unbroken series of victories to the Children of the Light. God got involved.

Next He moved His servant, Obama, to enter the 2008 Presidential campaign and inspired him to persevere in his quest against all odds, against every unkind missile of hate and envy that the satanic forces could muster against him. But their howling rage at the thwarting of their schemes just when triumph seemed at hand was to no avail as the Lord's Will cannot be denied. A black man with an Islamic name whose father was a native African, an immigrant, a man of mixed blood, miscegenate as they would have termed Obama not long ago, his very birth a crime in many states not long ago, but now he was elected President by a solid majority including states in Dixie.

Say you this was not the Hand of God the Almighty at work? As in the raising up of His servant Abraham and his lieutenant Ulysses seven score and eight years before out of virtual obscurity to rescue the City on the Hill when it was before torn apart by the godless slavers, His message is clear again today. If you think He will allow this great spirtual republic, this great divine experiment of God's trust in man, to fail, here again is the proof absolute that He will not allow that, that He will raise up out of the veritable soil new men when they are needed, and set them upon His work. God got involved.

And now that this work has fairly begun, we come upon the time the I Ching calls Difficulty at the Beginning, when all the tangled skein of everything that is struggling to be born appears at first to make little progress against the powers that be. Many lose confidence and become discouraged because what was put wrong over a period of years cannot be put right in just a few months. The I Ching says Perseverance Furthers. To the doomsayers and the faint of heart, The Lord calls out, "Oh, ye of little faith!" Hearken unto The Word of The Lord. He will not fail us. His rod and His staff will comfort us.

To further encourage His People at this moment of doubt, The Lord caused several of the most black-hearted of Satan's creatures involved together in one of the most utterly depraved covens of devotion to Satan's dishonesty and hypocrisy to reveal their true selves in a matter of weeks for all to see and know them. No person of faith can fail to see God's Hand in the self-unmasking of the "C" Street Gang of Four, Sanford, Ensign, Coburn, and Pickering through circumstances which defy explanation of this world.

"Thou shalt not take The Lord Thy God's Name in vain." This isn't just a matter of swearing or cursing, but it is a prohibition upon the use of The Lord's Name to conceal and cover up deeds that contradict and subvert The Lord's message of brotherly love and respect for all mankind. This is the real "C" Street crime, not the tawdry foolishness of their actual misdeeds. The punishment for this is eternal damnation and nothing less. Repent oh ye sinners or you will lose your eternal souls and be separated from The Lord your God for all time! God got involved.

This will not be the final act of divine Intervention. The Lord has revealed to me that He is ever watchful against the forces of evil. He will not let them triumph. The Lord is thy shepherd. God will get involved again.

OK. Hey, Michelle? God here. Please run. While you're at it, please get Sarah Palin to run as your VP. I've vetted her already, and she knows the ropes (please keep her away from Katie Couric--let her talk to Rachel Maddow next time. I could use a good laugh). God has spoken--at least as credibly as you have, anyway.

So she spent three days praying and fasting whether or not she should run for congress.

How many days do you think she has spent fasting and praying asking God if she should quit and go back to anonymity? I suspect zero.

Any time a politician proclaims that he or she is doing the Lord's work, it is reason for constituents to be alarmed. If you believe that God is on your side, then you believe yourself to be infallible, because every decision you make is "God's will". We need to keep religion out of politics lest we become less of a democracy and more of a theocracy.

In Bachmann case, what she perceives to be "God calling" is actually just the voices in her head...

I must be showing my elder status but this reminds me of a old skit that Bill Cosby did at least 35-40 years ago about Noah building his ark as a result of a chat he had with the lord.... It's very interesting to read all the responses that jeer at Michelle's faith in God. It takes even more faith to believe that there is no God. Those who don't believe in a Creator want the rest of us to swallow that: Once upon a time there was a little ball in space (oh, by the way - where did space and the ball come from?). And one day, for no apparent reason, there was a "bang" and a bunch of planets appeared. And on one of those planets (which just happened to be tilted at just the right angle to support life), a little one-celled organism with no brain decided to start the evolutionary process. And a few billion years later - whah-lah - you have human beings walking around on the earth.

I call THAT a nut-case belief system.

Sorry to disappoint you, Mattress Answer Man - but "the public" did not want a government option, only a portion of the population did. And as many of them are beginning to understand the implications of a government-run health care system - after reading H.R. 3200 (or at least major portions of it), they (we) are coming back with a very intelligent and very firm, "HELL NO."

That being said, there are many conservatives who agree that there does need to be health care reform - but it needs to be reform that does not involve a government-run program. Our government's record speaks for itself: bankrupt medicare, bankrupt medicaid - social security funds that we all paid into with the understanding that those funds would help take care of us in our elder years... well, those dollars are all spent, and then some.

Now we learn that the majority of the dealerships who opted to participate in the Cash for Clunkers program have yet to see a dime back from the government. Only 2% of the funds have been paid out so far, and they were promised reimbursement within 10 days... that was weeks and weeks and weeks ago now. Even Obama indicated that the government-run postal system does worse than the privately-owned UPS, etc.

Look at our deficit, now exceeding a trillion dollars - this is what happens when bureaucrats run things. They make a major mess of it.

It never ceases to amaze me that even with this history of failure, there are still those who want to turn their health care over to the government.
