Cornyn Talking Up Fiorina's Prospects In California Senate Race
Do Republicans think they can take on Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) in 2010? For now at least, the San Francisco Chronicle reports, NRSC chairman John Cornyn is talking up the prospects of potential GOP candidate Carly Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett Packard.
"(Carly) Fiorina...even before she announces her candidacy she is within four points in a Rasmussen poll against Barbara Boxer," said Cornyn. "Of course Sen. Boxer's had some YouTube moments lately that I think are sort of raising questions about her liability, even in a place like California."
California is a state that is big and expensive, leans to the left, and voted for Obama by a 61%-37% margin last year. But hey, there's something to be said for aiming high.

Not to mention that Carly Fiorina is the definition of corporate FAIL that is just so appreciated in California.

Yeah, this sure seems like a good idea.
Not.
And he's relying on a Rasmussen poll? Gracious.
But hey: if Big John wants to dump big bucks into supporting a candidate who got fired by her previous employer as someone who understands the economy, fine by me.
And this:
is a nice little slam against those whacky Californians. . .
Oh, and someone needs to ask Fiorina if she'd support Sotomayor, were she a Senator. Right now.

Ditto the other comments. What is it with the Republican fascination with women who embody the Peter Principle? Other than turning HP into her own personal P.R. campaign, the woman's catstrophically bad business decisions screwed up a once-great company beyond all recognition. Actually, she did that to two companies if you count Compaq. Christ, I think Palin may have even done a better job of running Alaska than Fiorina did HP. (Granted HP is about ten times bigger and more complicated than the state government of Alaska).

Agreed great comments. Her posters could read "I may have financially ruined HP and Compaq but hey California is already bankrupt, so how much worse could you do."
As to the question of the GOP fascination with women such as Mrs Fiorina, I have always chalked it up to making the GOP look less than all white male. Of course that is not to say that there are not minorities or women who define themselves as Republican, there are, but IMHO we know whose really in charge. I mean hell Hutchison from my good ol' state has never exactly pushed the envelope, Cornyn has had a much better presence on the national scene, and it really looks like Snowe and Collins get the short end of the stick when it comes to pushing the GOP agenda.

Three companies if you count Agilent-- the way in which it was spun off from HP left it in what was in certain ways a very precarious position which still periodically haunts it today. (However it may be unfair to attribute this to Fiorina because the decision to spin off Agilent was made before she joined HP.)

She's EXACTLY the person I want to run a state that has gone bankrupt. Because after all, she can't possibly screw it up even more, can she?

Yep. She really did screw up HP big-time.
And there's the issue of her sicc'ing private investigators on her Board of Directors and a few reporters, stealing their private phone records by impersonating them. (It's been politely called "pretexting" (read: lying, fraud), but if you obtain someone's private data (to which you're not entitled) through fraud, I call that "stealing".)

Unfortunately, as much as I'd like to hang the pretexting albatross around Fiorina's neck, it was her successor, Patricia Dunn, who was at the helm. I thought the same as you, so I did a little investigating. Alas . . .
But it doesn't mean the thought never crossed her mind.

Looks like you're right. I thought it started near the end of Carly's tenure, but the really nasssty stuff seems to have started under Dunn. (Oh! Shades of Airplane!)

Of course Sen. Boxer's had some YouTube moments lately
Did this actually happen and I just didn't hear about it because I read the liberal biased media blogs, or is Cornyn just living in his own reality with its own youtube.com?

And let's not forget the time she hated on the Latinos in California while talking to the proto-teabaggers.

Fiorina would be the perfect Republican candidate: fail and get a promotion.
