GOP Ad In Minnesota: Dems Will Deny Health Care To Old People
It's official: The GOP is officially taking the Dems-will-kill-seniors message to paid television advertising.
The Minnesota Republican Party, plus the support of the Republican National Committee, have been running TV ads version of the RNC's previous "Reforma" Web ad, a parody of pharmaceutical ads, only targeting "the Obama-Pelosi prescription for building a government takeover of health care."
Here's the ad targeting Democratic Rep. Tim Walz. There is also another version spotlighting Blue Dog Dem Congressman Collin Peterson.
One of the potential side effects: "The government can deny your health care based on patient age." That same line was in the original Web ad -- but now it's on paid TV.

I wonder who they're targeting. I can't imagine this ad having any pull with Amy Klobuchar or Al Franken.
So, is their strategy to achieve blockage in the House? I wouldn't have guessed that.

What station is this ad running on. It's not true, so it should be pulled.
If they don't pull it, then we need an ad stating that opponents of health care reform are all racist opposed to health reform because Obama is black (probably more accurate than the ad shown above).

Ok, when are the dems going to start airing ads about the horrendous insurance industry death panels for people under the age for medicare. They can just pull clips from sicko and run adds. This message war that is going on is absurd and completely false. Maybe they can get hawkins to do an add praising the UK health system. Or people airing adds praising all the western democracy health systems and encouraging the US to get on board and into the 20th century, let alone the 21st century. This is absurd.

the last time i had to think about torts was law school, so i may be wrong here, but ...
it seems to me that all of these scare tactics are probably effective to some degree -- that is to say, they are scaring the bejeezus out of at least some of the targeted audience, i.e., the elderly.
i'm probably wrong, but what these groups are doing seems, then, to constitute the tort of Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress (IIED). in fact, one could reasonably categorize this as a "mass tort," given the scale and reach of the conduct.
here are the general elements of the tort:
1. Defendant acted intentionally or recklessly; and
2. Defendant’s conduct was extreme and outrageous; and
3. Defendant’s act is the cause of the distress; and
4. Plaintiff suffers severe emotional distress as a result of defendant’s conduct.
someone should file a class action. seriously.
