House And Senate Dems Briefed On How To Respond To Town Hall Disruptions

Though Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) tells a different story, Democratic Congressional aides say members have been briefed on how to respond if their public events are disrupted by angry protesters. Some members have been given a sheet with guidance on how to handle the situation, should the need arise.

And the Associated Press reports that "White House aides distributed briefing materials explaining to senators the points Obama is stressing, as well as how to answer commonly asked questions,"

I guess we'll know soon enough how effective these 'best practices' are when the tea bags hit the fan. But it's yet another sign that Democrats take the threat--mainly rhetorical but also physical--seriously.

Show of Hands

Dear Legislator,

Suggested additional Q&A for your town hall ...

Everybody gets to speak.  But first, I'd like to have a show of hands on a few issues.  This is not just for me to know how you feel.  It's for everybody here to know how the rest of us feel.

When we've done these, some of you can ask for a show of hands on your own issues.  Then everybody will get to make a comment.

Q.  How many think we can trust the health-insurance companies?  Raise your hand.
Q.  How many think we cannot?

Q.  How many think drugs cost too much here in the US?
Q.  How many do not?

Q.  How many think things will bet better on their own?
Q.  How many do not?

Q.  If we do nothing, it'll just get worse.  Is that what you want?

Good idea, but it sounds as if they wouldn't even get to the first question.

One would think that would be a great place to start, but the protesters aren't interested in a civil debate or answering simple questions.

How do you even begin when the environment is set on viral.

Ummm... by making sure your PA system can be heard over the shouters?

Submit those suggestions to the WHITE HOUSE and to your congresspersons.

They are going to provide them with chalk and chalk boards so when they act up, they'll be sent to the corner to write 100 times, I will not be a belligerent ignoramus. I will wait my turn like a civilized human being.

How about starting with this:

I want the opportunity to hear what you have to say, but because we live in a democracy, we need some rules. I would like a show of hands; how many people think that those who shout and disrupt this meeting should be removed from the room?

great idea but add ...removed from the room and placed under arrest!
