Two separate polls this morning confirm that Gov. Charlie Crist (R-FL) has a huge lead over his right-wing challenger in the 2010 primary for Senate, former state House Speaker Marco Rubio.
From Quinnipiac: Crist 55%, Rubio 26%.
And Rasmussen: Crist 53%, Rubio 31%.
Rubio has hoped to capitalize on Crist's support for the stimulus, in order to mobilize conservatives against the moderate governor. So far, it doesn't seem to be working, with Crist backed by the full party establishment and remaining way ahead in surveys.

Ya know, the rank-and-file GOOPers aren't quite as stupid as their leadership... nor as stupid as their leadership presumes them to be. (I know, not a very high bar to meet.)

Considering Christ came out and supported the stimulus, what kind of message does this give Republicans of swing states?

"...what kind of message does this give Republicans of swing states?"
A message they are incapable of hearing.

Also: this "Crist came out" usage is just encouraging Kay Bailey Hutchinson's subliminal branding.

I want Rubio! The crazier the Repub the better. Crist is just too reasonable. Crist is also gay as a three dollar bill despite getting 'married' about an hour before McCain didn't choose him for VP. I am sure Rubio and the young fascists of Florida are trying hard to figure out how to get the shit flying their way. Good luck!

Photoshop Crist's head on a diaper-wearing clubland homo in the Beach of Miami?
Eh, it almost worked with that fake Franken 'shop. Maybe Floridians will be thicker than Ohioans.

Rubio needs to hit Crist on his poor judge of character. Florida is full of shady opportunists, and many of then flock to Charlie. One of Crist's cash bundlers, for example, is Gerard Growney, a St. Petersburg realtor who allegedly exploits elderly Alzheimer's sufferers. Here's Growney's story and photo:

And then there's Gary Kompothecras, a Sarasota chiropractor and anti-vaccine crackpot:

Kompothecras' fortunes rose when Florida ordered insurance companies to pay up to $10,000 for chiropractic care for persons injured in car accidents. Now he funnels money to Crist, and is instrumental in a proposal to ban thimerosal from all vaccines used in Florida.
Thimerosal has been absent from scheduled childhood vaccines since 2002.
One Florida state senator called Kompothecras' involvement "one of the most egregious examples I've seen of money influencing the process."
