Rep. Paul Broun: ObamaCare Will Leave "Mama" to Die in Agony in Bed
Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) is stepping up the death-panelism, with a new letter warning that President Obama's socialized medicine scheme will kill your mama with a slow, agonizing death! Literally.
In a new letter sent out from the American Conservative Union, Broun issues the following warning:
And if these federal bureaucrats decide that your treatment is not "Government Approved," then your doctor will be ordered to deny you treatment... or risk facing stiff penalties!
...
In other words: When mama falls and breaks her hip, she'll just lie in her bed in pain until she dies with pneumonia because her needed surgery is not cost efficient.
(Emphasis in the original.)
Broun spokeperson Jessica Morris confirmed that Broun did help write an ACU letter, though she herself had not seen it. When presented with this excerpt, she did not have any further comment on its contents.
Check out an excerpted page from the letter, after the jump.
Dr. Paul Broun, M.D.
United States Congressman (R-GA)
My fellow American,
As a Congressman and as a concerned doctor, I am writing today to warn you:
Your health care is in serious danger.
Barack Obama managed to sneak a provision into his massive "stimulus" bill that is going to ration your health care and lead us down the path of socialized medicine.
My friends at the American Conservative Union (ACU) are trying to rally public opinion to stop rationed health care, so please send them your "DON'T RATION MY HEALTH CARE!" Survey today...
...or the next thing you know, your doctor may be banned from giving you or your loved ones the life-saving care they need!
Obama has created a new $2 billion federal bureaucracy -- a national health care rationing board -- that will decide if the medical care you need is "cost efficient."
And if these federal bureaucrats decide that your treatment is not "Government Approved," then your doctor will be ordered to deny you treatment... or risk facing stiff penalties!
Sadly, it's senior citizens who will be hit hardest by Obama's new plan.
Obama and his advisors are modeling this rationing board after European systems that use age and life-expectancy as key factors in deciding the "cost efficiency" of a procedure.
In other words: When mama falls and breaks her hip, she'lljust lie in her bed in pain until she dies with pneumonia because her needed surgery is not cost efficient.
As a medical Doctor, I find this outrageous and unacceptable!

Oh it's worse than that - he neglected to mention that he's the one who pushed Mama in the first place. While muttering something like "damned estate tax - well fuck it, I need the cash for my re-election campaign"

What new federal bureaucracy is this?

The Department of Old People Elimination (DOPE, in government parlance). Guess you didn't hear about it because the liberal media suppressed the story.
On the up side, however, they show them some great nature films set to any music they want on the way out. Then, of course, it's off for processing into green crackers.

What the hell is wrong with the Democrats? These people are transparently whoring for health "care" providers that profit from unnecessary, ineffective and sometimes even harmful treatments. Any kind of halfway decent Democratic messaging machine would be able to hang that around their necks.

It's pathetic. What happened to the Obama message machine from the campaign?

I don't know, this stuff has become so transparently ludicrous, I believe anyone paying half attention to what's going on can see the lies for exactly what they are. The lizard brain wingnut base is happy to believe this crap, but everyone else? I doubt it. ZOMG! OBAMA'S GOING TO KILL YOUR MOTHER!!! Please. The smart response to this stuff is a) dismissive ridicule and b) questions as to why the GOP feels like they need to gin up ridiculous lies to make their point. I think you'll be seeing lots of this in the coming days.

My sweet grandma fell yesterday and broke her elbow. I want to ask her who is paying to get it fixed (Medicare?) but I think it's still too fresh, like, she's just out of surgery.
Plus she's pretty conservative.
So what's a good way to ask her about the financial component of this, without coming across like a prick??

Called Dr. Broun's office, telling them that I'd like to share this news with all of my friends, and asking in which bill I could find the language creating this new rationing board. Weirdly, the could not cite a specific bill and section. It's almost as if it doesn't exist.

Right. They're speaking to constituents and the greater audience who aren't going to check these documents.
Their edge is that you almost have to look up what it is they're talking about to really know it isn't there. Conservatives do not like anything to be complicated, and they find it easy to fight complexity with swift boat tactics. If you can't respond in kind but with leverage and authority, you lose that battle. You don't even have access to the audience.

If this guy practices medicine the way he practices politics, grandma won't want him messing with her broken hip.

I'm pretty certain that it is more costly to maintain a patient in the hospital with a fractured extremity. Its called increased length of stay, nursing support, physical therapy, medicines (antibiotics/ pain meds).
A patient will proceed to physical therapy much faster once the fracture is repaired/stabilized.
This moron deserves a brain transplant for making such an illogical statement with no supporting evidence.

Oh, now I get it. Punch line from an old joke: Sometimes God likes to play doctor.
So God is playing both Doctor and politician in Braun.
He is made in our image/imagination.

Myth: Health care reform means rationed care.
Fact: None of the health reform proposals being considered would stand between individuals and their doctors or prevent any American from choosing the best possible care.
Fact: Health care reform will NOT give the government the power to make life or death decisions for anyone regardless of their age. Those decisions will be made by an individual, their doctor and their family.
Fact: Health care reform will help ensure doctors are paid fairly so they will continue to treat Medicare patients.
Bottom Line: Health reform isn't about rationing; it's about giving people the peace of mind of knowing that they will be able to keep their doctors and that they will always have a choice of affordable health plans.

". . . if these federal bureaucrats decide that your treatment is not "Government Approved," then your doctor will be ordered to deny you treatment... or risk facing stiff penalties!"
If these insurance companies decide that your treatment is not "Profit Approved," then your doctor will be ordered to deny you treatment... or risk being dropped as a provider by the insurance company!

He also said in a town hall meeting today that the Obama administration is hoping for some kind of pandemic so that it can declare martial law. "They want to take over," he said.
This guy is truly fucked in the noodle.
And one of the reforms he wants is stricter controls on malpractice suits. Not too self-serving, huh?

This is the same guy who spent six minutes and 23 seconds on the House floor sharing his "coming to Jesus" testimony. It doesn't appear truthfulness is a virtue in his church. On the contrary, I believe the follow the commandment, "Thou shalt spew bull$h!t."
