SEIU: We've Gotten Threatening Phone Call Involving The Second Amendment

SEIU says it has now received an apparent threat involving gun violence from a right-winger in reaction to the union bringing their own people to town halls, Greg Sargent reports.

A woman identifying herself as Diana from Oregon left a voicemail with the union, denouncing their "thuggish" tactics, and then ending on a doozy of a punch-line:

"I suggest you tell your people to calm down, act like American citizens, and stop trying to repress people's First Amendment rights," said Diana. "That, or y'all are gonna come up against the Second Amendment. Stop the violence."

The degree of projection evident in that statement is pathological.

If any group is not acting calm it's the Tea Baggers. It's doubtful unions would even be there if the Tea Baggers weren't carrying swastikas and nooses around.

user-pic

Just a matter of time now.

And when it happens, we're not going to see a lick of contrition from Boehner, Demint, Limbaugh, Malkin, Beck, the turfers or any of the other inciters. They're not even going to try disassociate themselves from the shooter(s).

No, when it happens, they're going to blame SIEU, Acorn, Obama and, probably, TPM.

user-pic

Peggy Noonan already blames Obama and the Democrats.

If they hadn't tried to do this, people wouldn't be so scared, you see?

user-pic

Civil rights legislation passed owing much to JFK's martyrdom.

It just grosses me out to think some random legislator might become health care's JFK.

(BTW, am I the only one who thinks Orly Taitz (pic in upper left corner) looks like a man wearing an overstated wig?)

user-pic

No, you aren't. She has Coulter's Disease.

user-pic

It has been suggested elsewhere that Orly is actually Sacha Baron Cohen in a new character. Not impossible to believe.

user-pic

He'd be funnier.

user-pic

I just saw your link to that. I can't believe they're doing it preemptively. Cynical as I am about them, I would have expected them to try to at least do what Beck did and say "I don't want anyone to get violent" while inciting them to violence.

user-pic

And they would be correct.

user-pic

If you believe that, you are clinically insane.

user-pic

It never fails to amaze me all the endless wingnut bleating about "personal responsibility" comes to an end when they're the ones responsible for the bad act. Then, they're the victim and whatever it is that they've done is always the real victim's fault. (Or Obama or Bill Clinton's fault.)

user-pic

Dan Rather lost his job due to 'memogate'

Dick Durbin had to apologize on the floor of the Senate for saying some of our troops in Iraq were acting like Nazis.

Bill O'Reilly never paid for his harangues against that abortion doctor that was eventually murdered.

user-pic

I hope the FBI gets in on this. The gun threats are serious. The right-wing antiabortionists, the extreme NRA members, and rabid teabaggers are drawn from the same mix of alienated right wingers.

...NC Steve is right. Randall Terry distanced himself from the assasination of Dr. Tiller, while still calling Tiller a "mass murderer."

Boehnor and McConnell will deny any connection with the violence. But they are not stepping up to call out the anti-health reform and tell them to protest peacefully.

This is getting scary - Health care reform is important, but no one should die for it.

user-pic

Aren`t people dying for Health Care,or should I say the lack of it, on a daily basis?

user-pic

At least most of the twitters and web site commenters and dittohead callers are just armchair (or keyboard) warriors, but some of these people are for real. The shooter at the health club in suburban Pittsburgh turns out to have been Obama obsessed. http://www.eandppub.com/2009/08/ap-omits-killers-obama-references.html

I'm tempted to say no public events, but if they're canceled, the teabaggers win. If we're too scared to show up, the teabaggers win.

... y'all are gonna come up against the Second Amendment.

I've been trying to think of some interpretation of that sentence that isn't equivalent to "y'all are gonna get shot" or at least "y'all are gonna hafta confront our guns," but I'm not having any luck.

They couldn't be talking about a well regulated Militia, could they?

(Maybe they could have before the GOOPer court ruled those important words that open the Second Amendment had no meaning.  So-called "strict constructionists" lookin' pretty "activist," no?)

user-pic

Scalia was an activist when he usurped the exclusive authority of Congress to resolve election disputes in 2000.

user-pic

Where is the FBI! I'm sure if this was from say the middle east....

user-pic

. . . or the hood.

user-pic

what a contrast.

on the right, they're threatening to shoot people.

on the left side of things, i got off the metro today in northern virginia to see 3 volunteers at the entrance of the station with clipboards that said, "let's talk about health reform," with nice looking glossy handouts reminiscent of obama's election materials (most likely supplied by OFA).

so: kill people vs. talk to them

same as it ever was.

user-pic

just as Bill Maher said recently. "...The Democrats have moved toward the center and the GOP has moved into a mental hospital."
'nuff said.

user-pic

What a loon:

"Stop the violence -- or I'll shoot you."

She's another far-right law-illiterate who believes the gooberish nonsense that the Framers put the Second Amendment after the First in order to "back up" the First.

In reality, Congress submitted 12 proposed Amendments to the States, and the first 2 were rejected, making 3 into 1, and 4 into 2.

Still, the Second Amendment, America-hating Scalia notwithstanding -- has nothing whatever to do with "individual" ANYTHING.
