Tea Party Rage -- Rage Against The Dying Of The Right
North Carolina Tea Party Revolution has posted videos from their big protest outside Rep. Brad Miller's (D-NC) office on Friday, which they claim had 695 attendees -- and the videos sure to tell you a lot about the nature of right-wing anger right now.
Miller has not been holding town halls, but instead scheduled a meeting at his Raleigh office with a small group of constituents who were also conservative activists. The Tea Party then gathered outside:
These people really do see America as a place that has now been taken over by an illegitimate regime -- note the signs like "Liberal Government + Liberal Media = Tyranny," and "United Socialist States of America." Plus there's a defiance of the home-made shirts of a cracked ACORN logo, with the name spelled backwards to make a new acronym: "Not Really 4 Obama's Communist America." If the government isn't conservative, it's tyrannical.
And just look at this example, of a man saying that our children have been "enslaved" by a $115 trillion debt -- complete with baby dolls in striped prisoner outfits and chains:
"And we're tired of the government's saying that we're paid and that we're organized. We are not. We're everyday citizens," the man explained "We get together on Internet Web sites to figure out where things are going on, and what's going on -- just like the other side does. And we're sick and tired of this, we gotta take back America now."

$115 trillion debt? Ok, I don't like our debt any more than anyone else and would like to see it reduced. But when we're talking about the national debt, let's at least use a number within the same order of magnitude of the truth.

The notion of the size of a trillion is poorly grasped by those who think the planet is six thousand years old.

$115 trillion? Why didn't he just round it off to a skillion?

I surprised you're not applauding these people. They are demonstrating with bullhorns and signs just like Democrats do when they pitch a fit. Moreover they are merely exercising their free speech rights. Surely you're all for that?
Now that they have everyone's attention, all of us can actually talk about this. At least until the next socialist shoe drops. Or the union goons critically injure someone.

"Free speech" for the Bagging Brownshirt as ever means freedom from critical speech
Thus it is and always will be with these crackpots

Yes, these people have a Constitutionally protected right to stand on the street and make fools of themselves shouting about socialism, tyranny, etc.

shooter,
one of yours said:
They're not organized but they do organize on the wingnut internet sites.
he also said:
Take back America from what? From Where? What has this guy lost since Obama was elected?
Doesn't he simply mean Republicans take the House/Senate/WhiteHouse back because when they had control the last time they did such a wonderful job?

You keep arguing that we're criticizing their right to speak which we're not. I have yet to read a single post that says these people should be yanked off the street or not allowed to protest if they're willing to do so in an orderly manner. I know it's difficult, but stop being intellectually dishonest.

These are the goon squads, the shock troops of the conservative power elite and health care - the Democrats' first major redistributive legislation has the USCoC FreedomWorks, Club for Growth etc mobilizing the troops...no question about it and no question that they are using a solid and REAL grassroots network of white evangelicals developed over the past 3 decades.
One of the TNR "jons" I forget whether it was Chait or Cohn pointed out last week that the HCR debate is only the first test of whether and to what extent we are able to rollback the Norquist gang's power.
I take the Baggers seriously. I take their Masters even more seriously

John, you've got it. These are the goons, the shock troops of the right wing. If you ask them individually why they are in the streets, it's because they are angry.
But they only know what they are angry at when their wealthy corporate masters or the right-wing politicians who want to regain power give them the propaganda to shout. Ask them individually what they want and without a script they are incoherent. They are just angry! To them there is nothing bigger than their fear and anger.
These people are weapons - tools - in a bigger struggle for control of America. They are being used.

Look, the bottom line here is that rational Americans know and understand that these people are stupid and dangerous... and with that in mind, we need to bring pressure to bear against all forms of mainstream media, when they continually legitimize them as citizens with a valid point of view. One to which they are entitled, because of "free speech", and which has every right to be discussed ad nauseam in the so-called "mainstream".
This is total bullshit. This is all nothing more than willful ignorance; the failure of basic education; the failure of reason in our society; the defeat of the "reality-based community".
To keep giving these people a soapbox is to marginalize the U.S.'s relevance, in a complicated world. We cannot afford that to continue, under any circumstances.
The MSM is going to continue to feature these drooling idiots prominently, unless some really effective pushback is mounted. This is not doing our country any damned good.

The tell is the repeating of "take back OUR America". They view it as theirs, and it pretty much has been for the previous eight years. This resembles nothing so much as a child who's had his candy taken away.

And, when they visualize from whom they're taking America back, my guess is they see a black POTUS and a Hispanic Supreme Court justice. Let's not discount the connection between the fever-pitch anger and the Sotomayor vote last week.

I don't! The Sotomayor lynching fizzled big time. The Bagger Money Bags didn't want to waste resources on that nonsense so within days of the premature Beck/Limbaugh ejaculation the GOP leaders worked quickly to put the genie back in the bottle
I observed at the time but I didn't think far enough ahead on the time line to discern what they were saving the rage for
In fact, pulling the rug out from under the crazies on Sotomayor wound up being a pretty good move. Instead of disillusioning and discouraging, it only make the fruitbats crazier, angrier as you say

FYI, and it's been pointed out quite a bit lately: "OUR America"; "MY country" is nothing but dog whistle for "Oh my God, the colored guy actually got elected!! OH MY GOD!!.
They honestly never believed in their deepest "minds" that it was possible to have a Black President. They're in shock now, and that is deliberately being fluffed with malice aforethought by the GOP.
My prediction is, as a result, you're going to see one hell of a lot more voter motivation on the extreme racist right, now that they do know that it can happen here (and did).
And that's what this blank check from the GOP for Rush, Sarah and the crazies is all about. They desperately need that extra margin of trailer trash couch potatoes, especially in 2012. Stoking them now means throwing gentility to the winds, ignoring the cries of "Foul!" from so-called mainstream critics, and just going all-out racist.
But don't ever thing that there's anything "grassroots" about it all. The morons may come from that gene pool, but the people at the top are working overtime to woo them... and criticism of the civility of it all be damned... because it's the very last strategy the GOP has to survive.

I hate to say it, (I'm a single payer advocate through and through), but that guy in the blue and white shirt at ~3:30 in the first video raises a pretty good question regarding the costs associated with defensive medicine & the possible need for some substantial tort reform.
Would juries consisting of MDs, NPs, etc be a good idea?
Could anyone, specifically specialists and Emergency Department docs, comment?
Defensive medicine is, sadly, a big problem. The rest of what he says is silly; But he does make one good point that is worth thinking about..
Sorry for the brief, inarticulate comment! Hopefully you'll get the gist of my question and comment-- I'm on my way out the door.

"Would juries consisting of MDs, NPs, etc be a good idea? "
Unconstitutional. Probably a bad idea...defensive medicine is difficult to quantify
"Tort reform" not. Medical malpractice insurance premiums are an infinitesimal part of medical costs. States such as Texas and CA which limited recoveries with "tort reform" legislation experience no change in premiums

sometimes it costs more, sometimes care is just inferior.
Slightly different subject, but do you remember side mount gas tanks? Not surprisingly they are not as safe during a side impact, But tend to be safer in front or rear impacts. And most impacts are either front or rear.
Its hard to make that case in court because the first part about side impacts is true.
Medicine can have the same trade-offs. The defensibility of a procedure is sometimes much higher on the list in the decision making process than it should be.

You can take back America by winning elections. And what we've learned from the past history of the left is, you don't win elections by acting like freaks in the streets.

Gee, more white people all at middle age or above. That's the demographic.
The problem is, if the Dems can't capitalize on their gains in every other demographic by registering and turning people out to vote, we could be in some trouble come 2010.

You people are still pissed because your side got it's ass kicked in the last election. Newsflash....We're going to kick your asses again in this healthcare battle! Don't give me the Freedom of Speech crap! These people were claiming at one of the townhalls that Obama was trying to push through single payer. When the Congressman told them that it wasn't true, they began shouting that it was. Facts don't have a counter weight. Either you have them or you don't yet, when hit with the facts, they refuse to accept it. These idiots like Palin are very comfortable in their ignorance and nothing will change that. Now, tell me again that this is a Freedom of Speech issue?

Freedom of Speech is not just a right, it is a responsibility.
Generations of men and women have died to preserve this responsibility. It sickens me to see how it is being perverted. Not by the people at these events, who for better or worse honestly believe the garbage spewing forth from their lips, but by the people who filled their empty heads with such lies.
When you have a mouthpiece that can reach millions of vulnerable, undereducated people, when does practicing this 'right' become abuse? When does manipulation of the 'facts' become equivalent to yelling FIRE in a crowded theater?
Citizenship in this country had degraded to the point where we can't trust an individual to be responsible; to inform themselves before making a decision or forming and voicing their opinion. Wouldn't it be easier to police the mouthpieces at this point?
But who in the hell do we trust to police them? I think we're all screwed.

The MSM is getting all excited over a few thousand wingnuts across the country showing up to protest. The turnout is actually smaller than the silly teabag protest. When their numbers start counting in the millions, I'll be impressed. Or even hundreds of thousands.
