Tea Party Sign: "Keep The Guvmint Out Of My Medicare"

It's true -- Tea Partiers really do want to keep the government out of their Medicare!

Sound Politics, a conservative Seattle-area blog, went to a local town hall by Democratic Rep. Rick Larsen, and gave a somewhat bemused take of the demonstrators on both sides of the fence:

"'Keep the guvmint (sic) out of my medicare,'" our friendly narrator observes. "Not so sure about that one."

It seems that this sentiment from the right is not an urban legend, after all. Either that, or some really clever left-wing plants have infiltrated into the crowds.

"Keep the guvmint (sic) out of my medicare"

Is it possible to be too stupid to legally have an opinion?

user-pic

Another of the central mechanisms paying for Obamacare is a dramatic cutting of Medicare. In that case, getting guvmnit out of Medicare makes perfect sense.

Perhaps you were too busy being smart to get that one. heh.

user-pic

I mention "too stupid" and look who chimes in.

That kind of twisted thinking was well outside my smarts' plasticity range. If we got government out of Medicare, then there would be no Medicare. So much for making (non)sense.

Stick to licking your butt, li'l pup. Something from your brain might eventually make it down there.

Why has the AARP endorsed the House Bill?

Did Soros buy them off?

ACORN?

Why do you hate our troops?

Your medicare is safe, and stronger with reform - Robert Kocher of the National Economic Council debunks the myth that Health Insurance Reform would be financed by cutting Medicare benefits. To the contrary, reform would simply eliminate waste and unnecessary subsidies to insurance companies. http://www.whitehouse.gov/realitycheck/31

Pearlstein's right the Republican attacks have ZERO ground in reality

But the questiion remains - WHY do they go to so much trouble to make this shit up? Guess they don't have time to "read the bill"?????

user-pic

Your problem my friend is that most people don't believe that the promises from the White House will be met. Worse, some people believe that said promises are just manipulation in an effort to exact control over all of one's life. And darn if there isn't sufficient evidence to believe the absolute worst. You know like...
* Obama recommending the pain pills instead,
* Cutting Medicare,
* Direct access by Government to every bank account to take medical fees,
* Boards to evaluate what Government will pay for and what they won't,
* Increased taxation,
* Abortions,
* Statements that Congress won't have to suffer Obamacare personally,
* Union thugs,
* loss of private healthcare by fiat
* Etc. etc. etc.

And doggone if that doesn't make all those stupid people in America mad.
Well, you never know. Congress might actually let everyone read the final version of the bill before the railroad job, and we can see exactly what there is, or isn't.
It could happen.

* Obama recommending the pain pills instead
Instead of what? Unneeded surgery?

* Cutting Medicare
The plan doesn't cut Medicare. It reduces the cost of Medicare through preventive care cost savings.

* Direct access by Government to every bank account to take medical fees
Medicare already uses EZ Pay, as do many private insurance plans.

* Boards to evaluate what Government will pay for and what they won't.
The government already uses a board to make recommendations for Medicare and the VA. The insurance companies do to, but their motivation is profit, not quality care.

* Increased taxation,
Only for those in the top tax bracket. The middle and lower classes will see a net tax cut coupled with reduced premiums.

* Abortions
Abortion is a legal medical procedure. Why shouldn't it be covered?

* Statements that Congress won't have to suffer Obamacare personally.
Members of Congress will have the option to keep their existing coverage, just like everyone else.

* Union thugs
You mean people expressing their opinions in a public forum? Should the meetings only be open to Tea Birthers sent their by astroturf organizations paid by insurance companies?

* loss of private healthcare by fiat
You need to look up the definition of the word option. You can keep your crappy profit driven insurance if you want. I personally think you and anyone else spreading outright lies should have a sign a waiver stating you won't whine when your precious insurance company refuses to pay for treatment or drops you for utilizing too many services. Unfortunately that won't make it into the final bill.

Shooter's desperate attempt to squeeze some drop of sense out of that patently illogical statement is probably the most pathetic bit of trolling I've seen in months.

You can't keep something out of itself. Sorry. The statement is flatly stupid. It's like someone telling himself to "stop touching me." It only makes "sense" to schizophrenics (like the protesters) and pathological liars (like yourself).

With that said, I love how, after decades of decrying Medicare's inefficiencies, Republican and "professional" trolls like shooter now insist that it's a flawless plan that can't have a single cent worth of inefficiency in its Platonic perfection.

Of course, if Medicare is flawless... then why the objection to government-run health insurance?

Does it feel good to be such a disingenuous shit stain? I sure hope so.

user-pic

Shooter's now "reading the bill" and will be back with you shortly

Do you actually have a job, or are you paid to hang out here? Medicare providers admit to prescribing placebo (plus an office visit charge) to perfectly healthy seniors because they can get reimbursed. Seniors are subjected to more unnecessary testing than any other age group, because Medicare will pay. Seniors are more susceptible to errors due to polypharmacy (too many meds, many unneeded, many counter to good care) because Medicare will pay. Medicare needs to be reformed--it is sucking the lifeblood out of our healthcare system. It needs to be efficient and effective. Seniors need to be educated. Right now they are being medicated to death.

user-pic

In another thread you claimed there are no facts or information about the health care bill. But you seem to have enough information to make comments like that. Where are you getting your "facts"?

user-pic

Where he usually gets them - pulling them straight from his ass.

user-pic

He FIX'D YO' FACTS.

user-pic

Yeah it's a good thing government has nothing to do with medicare or medicaid. I couldn't imagine all the private industry that would have closed down due to not being able to compete with government's interference into such programs.

user-pic

Isreal is a big problem. They need a psychiatric evaluation.

user-pic

My money's on the guy being a lefty making fun of these whack jobs. not a bad idea. That might be the best way to deal with these idiots.

user-pic

Ok, now why doesn't this get any mileage on healthcare reform. Comprehensive reform will cost us less than we are spending now!!!! WTF, can't these pols get out some good talking points on this??????

http://finance.yahoo.com/insurance/article/107498/health-care-six-money-wasting-problems.html?mod=insurance-health

1/2 of the current costs are wasteful spending. HALF!!!

This is just insane.

user-pic

Why did the TPM Head Shed give Kleefeld the cuckoo beat?

user-pic

My guess is it was a plant. True believers are not sophisticated enough to be so appropriately ironic.

That doesn't diminish the impact of the sign at all, though, since even if it's not a true believer displaying it, it is entirely consistent with their inconsistent beliefs.

user-pic

Sometimes the best way to defeat your enemy is to hold a mirror up to them.

user-pic

Ok, I just heard roger simon on the ed show. He sounded sooo different than he usually does. He actually is right-wing by and large and he sounded pissed about the healthcare non-debate that is going on. He succinctly pointed out that we are dealing with "death panels" now with the insurance industry. They make the decisions for profit, not doctors or you. There is no choice now. Amazing. I couldn't believe that I was hearing it from him of all bloviators. The message just has to get out there simply and cleanly. Comeon dems and obama. Get your acts together.

user-pic

Do they realize that if they "keep the Government out of Medicare," there would be no Medicare to cover them while they sit on their lazy rears? (That insult in no way includes the older folks that need it, but I see none of them out here making these audacious claims.)

user-pic

Don't make fun of their DIABEETUS.

user-pic

Just remember. The American Medical Association has announced its support for HR 3200 and urges its passage. Hint: this is not socialized medicine; it's insurance reform.

It reminds me of the sign "Obama is a Muslin".

user-pic

Half-breed. Half-breed Muslin.

His mother was a race traitor.
