A new Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll gives further confirmation that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is in serious trouble headed into his 2010 re-election campaign, with him trailing both potential Republican opponents.
Against former UNLV basketball player Danny Tarkanian, who has previously run unsuccessful campaigns for the state Senate for Nevada Secretary of State, Reid trails by 45%-40%. Against state GOP chair Sue Lowden, Reid is behind 44%-41%. These results are within the ±4% margin of error, but are hardly encouraging.
A Mason-Dixon poll from a week and a half ago also showed Reid trailing Tarkanian and Lowden, by greater margins than this survey does.

Unfortunately for Harry, he just doesn't appear to be in control as a leader. It'd be amazingly bad for the image of Democrats were he to get defeated.

It's a weird sort of catch-22. Having Reid stay in power is bad for the image of the Democrats. But having him lose office would also be bad for the image of the Democrats.

I'll take my chances with addition by subtraction, thanks. Good riddance, Harry.

NOTHING about Harriet staying in power is good for Democrats. EVERYTHING about HARRIET being defeated is is EXCELLENT for Democrats.

Chicken Harry thought compromising on every issue, even when he had a substantial majority, made him a Statesman. Instead it made him weak and ineffective, and he lost the respect of both his supporters and his enemies. Chuck Shumer, it's time for you to lead the Senate. Buh bye Chicken Harry.

Keep placating those Republicans Harry, though you know they're not going to vote for you regardless right? Do you figure the progressive support you will lose will be made up by peeling off enough Republican votes?
The Senate Dems would be stronger with Reid out as leader so i view it as addition by subtraction. GOP will torpedo their own candidates though, because they know Reid is the gift that keeps on giving.

This is THE BEST THING that can happen to Democrats. I don't care if we have only 58 after he's gone. Who would be the most likely Majority Senator after this Harriet is canned?

Durbin or Schumer. I'd guess Schumer because Durbin is from Illinois (as of course is Obama and Emanuel).
Primary out Specter with Sestak, lose Reid and Lincoln, but have them replaced with Hodes and Carnahan - Dems keep 60 seats and replace Reid, Specter and Lincoln with Sestak, Hodes and Carnahan.

Thing is, if you lose Reid, you're likely also going to lose a lot of other Democratic senators. It would be a sign of a massive nationwide revolt against Dems, even pretty moderate ones. The Dems could lose 7-10 seats in the Senate.

Perhaps if Reid had a spine, was able to speak on issues convincingly, could hold his caucus together, stood up to Blue Dogs once in a while, had bounced Max Baucus from his Chairmanship, handed Joe Lieberman his hat and shown him the door, or shown any evidence of effective leadership, he wouldn't be worrying about this kind of thing. Unfortunately, none of the above is true, so now he's in rather deep merde, isn't he? (Along with the rest of us, alas.)

I'll shed no tears if he loses, although I'd prefer a Dem with a spine replace him. Dems will be just fine without him

Sometimes I think the best thing that could happen to the Democratic Party would be for people like Reid, Ben Nelson and other "blue dogs" to lose their seats.
