Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA), a three-term Congressman and medical doctor, will be giving the Republican response to President Obama's address on health care tomorrow night, George Stephanopoulos reports.
Greg Sargent reports that the speech will utilize the standard Republican talking points in this area -- that Democrats are refusing to work with Republicans, and that they'll put government bureaucrats between you and your doctor.
In a way, this may just signify a move towards a sane opposition policy, in that Boustany has previously co-sponsored with Democrats proposals on end-of-life counseling -- the same legislative language that became the basis of the "death panels" that Sarah Palin and others have demonized. In August, Boustany told USA Today that the issue would have to be revisited "at some point when the temperature had cooled down." He also lamented: "Frankly, this thing got really out of hand."

Lemme guess: he's in virulently red district, and has no aspirations, whatsoever, to run for broader political office.
Republicans don't seem to have learned that whoever follows Obama is going to look like a chump in comparison, so they picked someone who is as safe as possible.
And I can hear the Democratic talking points afterward: Even Republicans are in favor of end-of-life counseling!

This guy getting the gig was actually predicted by many. Basically he'll give "I am a doctor and I know what is wrong" rebuttal.

I wonder if Rep Boustany is related to Victoria Kennedy because her mother's name was Doris Ann Boustany. If so it's kind of ironic that the wife of the leading proponent of health care is being done in by a member of her own family.

Google "Lord Boustany" and see what comes up. This guy got scammed in the 80's into buying a british lordship by some con artist. This is who the GOP wants to give a response to Obama, a wannabe knight?

Jindal will come out pissed that he didn't get the gig but later take full credit. All relevant speech content will be divided into three major categories; socialism, fascism, liberalism. All other ism's will have to wait their turns.
P.S. I'm going to give the GOP response in advance in case you miss it. NO...HELL NO...NO F-ING WAY... BLAH-BLAH-BLAH. Totally lacked humility. Un-American. Agenda. Indoctrinate-HELLO!
