A voice of sanity is now emerging on the right over President Obama's stay-in-school speech tomorrow: Newt Gingrich.
Gingrich put up this Twitter post this afternoon, after the White House released the text of the speech:
Just read President Obamas speech to students.white House posted it. it is a good speech and will be good for students to hear
And he followed it up with this:
Remember that Presidents Reagan and Bush also talked to students nationwide. As long as it is non political and pro education it is good
Gingrich also appeared yesterday on Fox News Sunday, and spoke out in favor of the speech.

Unfortunately, Newt is living proof that education doesn't always work. Indeed, the man is the Poster Boy for Educated Beyond (his) Intelligence.

Maybe he's playing "good cop" today, trying to distance himself from the truly insane who have hijacked the media attention. Don't expect kumbaya with Democrats, though.

I wouldn't have considered Newt one of the sane ones, but if he, of all people, can be reasonable where are the other Republicans? Where's Olympia Snow and Susan Collins and.....um, those are the only moderates I can think of right now.
This whole thing has made me more angry than I've been since Palin and her Nazi rallies. The birthers and the death panel nonsense was bad enough, but ONE idiot down in Florida took offense and it's become mass hysteria. What the hell is wrong with this country?

Newt can go both ways. He's one of the Republicans who lives in the real world, but he also plays up the crazies a lot. The true crazies don't really give a damn about the Machiavellian implications of their stands and statements, whereas Newt does.
