On a conference call with Iowa reporters yesterday, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said he's looking to assemble a new bipartisan group to work on health care reform.
Grassley said he's reaching out to have senators from both parties -- and from neither of the committees that are currently working on reform, the Finance Committee and the HELP Committee, The Hill reports.
The hypothetical group would offer amendments to whatever bills come out of those committees.
"I think, though, that it'd be very helpful for people who aren't on the Finance committee or even the HELP committee...would kind of take the bull by the horns themselves and try to coalesce around something that could eventually become more bipartisan," he said.

what a joke.
let me guess: lieberman, nelson, and landrieu as the dems. hey, look at that -- none of them are on HELP or Finance. they'd really take the bull by the horns, wouldn't they.
fuck off, chuck.

It's really too bad that the Dems have nobody in Iowa with any chance to run against Grassley.

What a farce. Looking for other Dems to kill health care.
I think Iowa will reject his ways in 2010.

I fervently wish you were right. But in favor of whom? Bob Krause may be a decent guy; I really have no idea but I will vote for him barring some awful disclosure. But he has raised $6,000 to Chucklehead's $3 MILLION+. Iowans may be getting sick of him, but not enough to overcome that.

I would love to hear the conversations between Phuck Assley and his health insurer lobbyist overlord:
Overlord: Grassley, what the fuck's the matter with you!? Haven't you heard of cellphone video cameras? Getting videoed talking about 'pulling the plug on grandma' forced Baucus to move without you, idiot!
PhuAss: Eheh, sorry ma'am, don't hurt me. I think I have an idea to get the Delay Train back on track. Don't you have some more Dem Sens in your pocket?
OL: That is strictly need to know but, yeah, dozens of 'em. What's yer point? Speak up! Quit sniveling!
PhAss: Sorrysorrydon'thitme, ouch! I could form an 'ad hoc' comittee to come up with hundreds of 'bipartisan' amendments.
OL: Get on it, stooge!

I want to see the Democrat walk into a new gang w/Grassley.
They might as well put on a red jersey and put an R next to their name.

"a new bipartisan group to work on (stall) health care reform."
Are the counting the daily insurance profits lately?... just how much mad-money does this stalling tactic represent. Thety seem bent of holding off the inevitble, what is their motive other than ongoing profits?
What, one might wonder, is the approximate amount healthcare insurance industry investors will lose if the public option is initiated? And how quickly will those investors see their losses mount due to the origination of a public option?
They sure seem desperate to stall this right now, even some of those 'dogs facing the fickle finger of electoral outrage are stalling.
Must be millions, likely billions, in potential losses to these investors, and they are offering some juicy contributions and revolving-door futures options, in exchange for this canis fealty.
That is the only thing that might motivate the 'dogs to risk losing their precious seats.

The real hindrance to HCR is not the GOP but the few Dems who are going to sideup with Grassley on his never ending adventure to never Neverland.
Any Dems siding with Grassley will be an indication of how impotent Dem leadership(senate & WH) is.

Any Dem who signs up for additional work with Assley, is a Dem that needs to lose his next election.

Desperate and scrambling to kill healthcare reform. I think it's an encouraging sign.
It's also embarrassingly pathetic.

What's the point, seeing as the GOP are not remotely interested in reform?

If Grassley is so bent on bipartisanship why doesn't he just support one of the Bills coming out of the Senate? It would then become bipartisan. Lord knows there's been enough compromise already.
What he really wants is a Republican bill, meaning no real reform. Good luck with that, Chuck.

Right, right. If only we give Charles Grassley another six months to reach an agreement. Sure.
