The momentum is building for the House to officially condemn Rep. Joe Wilson's (R-SC) "You lie!" outburst against President Obama.
As Greg Sargent reported, the resolution of disapproval (which is less than a full "censure") could occur as soon as tomorrow. It will target Wilson's breach of the official rules of decorum, and his failure to properly apologize on the House floor.
A House Democratic leadership aide tells TPM that no final decision has yet been made, and the Democratic leaders will talk about it this evening. If Wilson were to actually apologize, that would of course render the situation moot. However, the source said, if Wilson doesn't apologize then the only remaining issue for leaders to discuss will be the timing of the disapproval, which could indeed happen tomorrow.

sounds like those 'strongly worded letters' that we saw so much of in the Bush years.
Addison Wilson (There's only *one* Joe Wilson to me, and it's Joseph P Wilson) is gonna take this resolution to the bathroom and wipe himself with it, for all this will stop him...

Exactly. Just another strongly worded letter.
A "Resolution of Disapproval". Cripes. Censure the bastard or not. Man & woman up or not.

Addison Graves Wilson still contends that he needs to have an ID check clause in any HCR bill to save prevaricating bigots from the immigrant. If not, Obama is STILL "lying," in the purview from the fine perch on which "Joe" sits.

It's one thing to call the WH and apologize for being a jerk but when you turn around and keep claiming you were right, the president is lying, in the face of all available evidence to the contrary you deserve censure. Let's have an up or down vote and make Republicans choose. Stand with Wilson and his demonstrably false assertions or stand with the House's own rules and the truth.

No doubt Wilson wanted in his gut to say, " You lie, boy!". A true American hero, this throwback to the dark past of our country. Sad to see that so many like-minded Republicans are now lionizing him.

Is this motion voted on? It will be interesting to see how the House Republicans, especially the leadership vote.

Wilson will wear his scarlet letter with great pride, I'm sure, so I question the wisdom of pinning it on him. But it would be interesting to see how the Repubes vote.

Wilson made an apology of sorts to the President, but he also committed an offense against his colleagues in the Congress, and should apologize, again, this time to them. Also, as Markg8 said above, he may have choked an apology to the President, but has refused to change his tune, and continues to repeat the lie claim. It's a shame what this country has come to, and the price we are paying, as a result.

How often do "disapproval" resolutions get passed, historically?

The course of action the Republicans should take is very clear: they should vote on this admonition as they would have voted, and would have expected others to vote, if a Democratic Representative had behaved in similar fashion toward President Bush. If they don't, they should be asked whether they are saying that the next Republican president should expect similar treatment.

Of course Glenn Beck and Rush will proudly proclaim the censure as some kind of a republican medal of honor.
I offer these two links to my friends and I suggest that we shove this down the throats of the GOP nonstop.

IMO, apologizing to Emmannuel is not the same thing as apologizinge to Obama. I have a feeling apologizing to a individual with African blood is something Wilson has never done in his life

Nope - at least the write up I saw said that he had called to speak to the President but was routed to Rahm. Heh, heh.

Wilson lied. He continues to lie. This was not spontaneous. He said it twice.
The President said that some had claimed falsely that, "our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants." The president then said: "The reforms I am proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally."
An Joe Wilson then says, "You lie!"
The legislation passed in the house said clearly that federally subsidized coverage could not be extended to illegal immigrants. FactCheck has confirmed this and so has CRS. The objections raised by Republicans in the amendments proposed were to require enforcement mechanisms, but there already are enforcement mechanisms for submitting a false claim to the federal government, both criminally and civilly.
While the amendments may have been good amendments, the fact they were voted down does not make Obama a liar.

I've been thinking all month long that what the Democrats really needed was another distraction from the topic of Health Care Reform and lo! and behold! here it is. Thank you, Nancy.
