Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) gave an interview with WIS, the local NBC affiliate in Columbia, South Carolina, and expressed contrition for his "You lied!" outburst -- but he also said he's received a lot of support for it back home.

"Well, I have been overwhelmed by phone calls from constituents -- people of the Second District -- who say, 'Joe, thank you for speaking up for us,'" said Wilson. "'Thank you for your passion, for the people who you represent, because you understand the threat to the health care system -- the potential for rationing -- and we appreciate so much you speaking up for the people of the United States.'"

They are absolutely going to rehabilitate this asshole. After all, once it became clear that the townhall teabaggers were full of it, the media decided that, even though they had no clue what they were talking about, their "anger was legitimate."

Yes, you are right! It died a long time ago when Harry Reid called and wrote in his book that President Bush is a liar and is dumb. It died when Nancy Pelosi called US citizens Nazi's. It also died when Barney Frank told his constituents that they were dumb as a table!!

I thought Joe's outburst was about the alleged (imaginary) coverage for illegal/undocumented immigrants. Now his supporters are happy he's speaking up against the "threat" of "rationing"? We already ration healthcare. Right now, it's by income.

The interviewer is not exactly demanding: "Now, concededly, Obama's health care plan is a grave threat to the republic, everybody knows that, but don't you think you could have revealed this threat to an imperilled nation a bit more decorously?")

At some point, with age and experience, I will stop being shocked at their hypocrisy, right?? Can you imagine the outrage from the right if this happend to one of their presidents? Likewise with the school speech. I thought conservatives were all about respecting authority. So much for that idea.

Ah yes, they respect authority, only when it is *Republican* authority. Authority that comes from a Democrat, well, that just can't be legitimate, so respect not necessary.

You are absolutely correct. It's simple to understand, given the perspective of religious conservatives:

1. They are on God's side and all others are not.
2. They know God's will and all others do not.
3. They will use the power of government to advance their understanding of God's kingdom.
4. Anyone who disagrees or opposes them is against God.
5. Those who oppose God do not merit respect, consideration or even politeness. And of course you never compromise with the agents of Satan.

Look no further for why American politics have gotten so polarized over the last few decades - it directly correlates to the rise of the Religious Right.

The revelations today that GOP Representative Joe Wilson is having financial difficulties cast a whole new light on last night, providing at least part of the reason why he was tapped by the GOP leadership to heckle the President. This will spike his fundraising through the roof. Of course it will do so for his opponent as well, but clearly this is a gamble Wilson was willing to take and it's a brilliant move. Rush Limbaugh is already coming to his defense; imagine how much money that will translate into for Joe.

Given South Carolina's conservative bent, he has a nearly insurmountable advantage over any Democratic opponent. His outburst will galvanize his supporters and fill his coffers, while pulling many Democratic dollars into a race which they are preordained to lose. It's an inspired move worthy of Machiavelli, and Joe Wilson is already laughing all the way to the bank.

P.S. MN Rep. Michelle Bachmann is probably fuming over how she wasn't picked to deliver this "spontaneous outburst" instead of Wilson. The GOP has a new star, and Bachmann and Sarah Palin have a new competitor on the national stage.

Don't like the lack of decorum? Too bad. Liberals have led by example and set the tone way many years past. Keep up the good work.

What's really funny is the way wing-nuts are out there acting like a bunch of zombie storm troopers. Devoid of even the most basic clue. Shouting until they're red in the face. Pouting as they spew lie after lie.

"We all make mistakes," Obama told reporters, a day after Wilson stunned the president and his colleagues with his outburst.

Infuriated Democrats briefly considered sanctioning the four-term congressman, but decided early Thursday that doing so might distract lawmakers from getting an agreement to overhaul health insurance.

"It's time for us to talk about health care, not Mr. Wilson," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

If you are fit enough to laugh for a solid hour, go read the comments. Do not have any beverages around when you do.

Waiting for cannon fire to commence over Fort Sumter again.

This guy represents the last bastion of racist, unreconstructed Southerners who have no ability to adapt to the concepts of patriotism and honor when those values require them to honor and respect a "miscegenenist."

These folks DESERVE our ridicule.

They continue to fly the STARS AND BARS on their capitol grounds.

This is not quaint or cute.

I think the President was inaccurate on perhaps one thing. He said only 15% of the republicans are like Joe. But he did make a key point about legitimate points are welcome at the table to discuss. "You Lie" has no value... disrespect has no value. For that matter no honor. "I have been overwhelmed by phone calls from constituents"... how many is overwhemed? Not a value comment either. As you can be overwhemed by a single call.

It's a sad day in America when people can not speak what's on there without being ridiculed, but I believe I'm expecting to much from the democrates who have stated when President Bush was in office the following "I did not vote for him, HE'S NOT MY PRESIDENT." Politeness works both ways but I have seldom found this in liberals. To a liberal lying is an acceptable behavior so long as they are th one's doing the lying. Mr. Wilson has my respect for speaking what was on his mind, but he should not have made the statement on the Congress floor, a mistake was made, I'm so sorry that liberals can't forgive a person for a mistake, even though they HAVE MADE PLENTY in the PAST. Long Live the Republic....SFC Stevens
