Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid may be in jeopardy of losing his seat in Nevada--but it's not because of his stance on health care reform.
A new Research 2000 poll commissioned by Daily Kos finds that, by a significant margin of 52-40, Nevadans favor creating a public option.
As with almost all of these polls, the findings are extremely polarized, with a huge majority of Democrats in favor of creating a government run health insurance plan, and a huge majority of Republicans opposing it.
Reid has said he's in favor of creating a public option that would be administered by a private entity.

I dunno. By that same poll he's trailing the named challenger 40%-45%. Also by that same poll Democratic party ID is at 44% and Republican party ID is at 38%. Somehow Harry Reid is four points less popular than the Democratic party-- if every self-identified Democrat would declare for Harry Reid he'd be, what, at least within the margin of error, even if we assume the unlikely possibility that not a single independent likes him?
Could be Reid actually is trailing for a failure to be Democratic enough.

I'm afraid that the Democratic party generally is about to suffer for not being Democratic enough. Or perhaps they really are just Republican-lite. Try selling that product.

It's Tom Daschle all over again - why do Democrats think people like Reid and Daschle make effective party leaders?
Dick Durbin's from downstate Illinois and a credible advocate for real Democratic values. Someone tell me why he isn't majority leader?
The GOP advances its sectarian, unpopular agenda with rabid ideologues, and we get milquetoasty Harry Reid. Can there really be any question why Democrats seem unable to implement a popular progressive agenda that a supermajority of voters in every poll say they support?

No, and there will not be one. Despite what these early polls say, I wouldn't bet against Reid.
We have some pretty progressive congress people here in Las Vegas, but statewide Reid is about as good as you are going to be able to do.
