The Boston Globe reports that the Massachusetts state Senate is set to move tomorrow on the bill to provide for a temporary appointment to Ted Kennedy's Senate seat -- meaning that the seat could potentially be filled by a caretaker Democrat by the end of the week.
Republicans had delayed the measure on Friday, and did so again today. However, they only have the ability to delay one more time -- but they say they won't actually do it.
"I don't know that there's a lot to be gained by continuing to delay just to delay it," said state Senate Minority Leader Richard Tisei. "That's not what we're about. We're trying to give people time to weigh in. We got the weekend out of it."

Just one more reason to love the Bay State. While we have not yet driven them to complete extinction, the remaining GOP has been so tamed that even Republicans acknowledge reality. Now that Andy Card is gone, they're actually kind of cute! Trust me, once they've been "fixed" they become much less aggressive (not to mention that they're much) less prone to spraying indiscriminately. Besides, I have to believe the little buggers are happier this way - really they are!

I guess you haven't been reading the blogs on the Globe. They're pretty rabid there.

The MA Republican party gives new meaning to the term toothless. They can snarl, but can't back it up. Their numbers in the state legislature are so small that their whole caucus can be listed on their letterhead, and they are mostly ignored. Unfortunately, the Republican stream of governors from Weld, through Cellucci, Swift, and Romney, all did a poor job of maintaining or building the party ranks. Sure, they sold the public on a Republican governor, although aside from Weld and Romney, the middle two inherited the seat, but they mostly never stuck around to finish the job, and never did the grunt work of building the party which has to begin at the bottom. Local town seats usually went unchallenged. Legislative seats often went unchallenged. I believe even some federal seats had NO challengers, or nominal cannon fodder, at best. This is not the way to change public policy or promote Republican policy in MA. BTW, I'm glad the Rs are so bad, although there are many instances where I'm not pleased with the attitude of the Dem leadership in the Lege, at least I know they see most issues from my perspective.
