The Democratic National Committee has a new TV ad on national and D.C. cable, firing back at GOP attacks that allege the Dems would weaken Medicare by playing up an obvious theme -- that the Republicans have long opposed Medicare, and have repeatedly voted to weaken or even abolish it:

"America's seniors have relied on Medicare for over 40 years - and Democrats are working to strengthen Medicare," the announcer says. "But the plain truth is, Republicans have opposed Medicare from the start. Their leaders have called for cutting Medicare -- and now for killing it."

Ok, but a little short on specifics. I realise commercials have to be short and simple, but the complete lack of who, what, when, where, and how is absurd.

Instead of arguing for a public option we're arguing for a program we put in place more than 40 years ago. Not good.

I can think of 20 more ads:

"Insurance Death Panels" with actual examples.

Wellpoint executive salaries, achieved only by denying coverage and covering only the healthy

"Denying coverage for mammograms for people who have had breast cancer. (MY personal experience!)

Oh, I can go on and on!

Every liberal blog should be pounding one message for the next 4 days: CALL THE WHITE HOUSE AND DEMAND A PUBLIC OPTION. And repeat.

Noonan is onto something. The Republican strategy to defeat health care reform - again, is to delay, delay, delay, picking off votes and support every step of the way. They know these tangents distract us from our goal of affordable health care for all, and the more time we spend putting out these fires, the greater their chances of killing reform are. Every day without a plan to vote on is a victory for Republican forces.
