Democracy for America and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee are turning their fire to Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) with the below ad, slated to run for as long as they're able to fund it in Maine and Washington, DC.
The groups highlight new polling data which shows that the choice of a public option has broad support in Maine, but particularly among Democrats and Independents.
But today, Snowe proposed an amendment to the Senate Finance Committee's health care reform bill that would allow for a weak, state by state public option that would only be instituted if private insurers fail to bring down premiums and expand coverage on their own. In other words, there's a lot of convincing to be done.

All that would really happen is tha they would be dealing with trillions of dollars going through the government medical system every week.

Is Sen. Collins also being targeted? It seems she is the more inflexible and the more anti-reform Senator of the two.

The problem with this ad is that the public option wouldn't havce helped this woman. She said herself she thought she had good coverage. What will help her is stopping insurance companies from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions, rescisson (dropping for technicality), capping coverage either yearly or over a lifetime. All of those issues are already dealt with and agreed to in all reforms.
If you want to make a call for a public option you need to make it on affordability/lack of competition grounds.
It sounds like this woman was making the case that once she was dropped by her plan she would have just went to the public plan - that's not how it will work.

Actually it would have helped her. She said she THOUGHT she had great insurance. After stating that, she went on to explain why they in fact didn't have GREAT ins. That their ins. company refused to pay thousands in bills forcing them into bankruptcy sort of makes that case for her point. This isn't a case of refusing care; it's a case of refusing payment/coverage. The public option would rectify that issue.
