New RNC Ad: Steele Pushes Deatherism Issues
Michael Steele is starring in a new TV ad by the Republican National Committee, which will run on select national cable channels and in Florida. In the ad, Steele promotes the RNC's positive "Seniors' Bill of Rights" -- which is itself a warning against the Democrats wanting to cut Medicare and kill senior citizens, which are the underlying themes of the "death panel" meme:
"Make it illegal to ration health care based on age. Prevent any government role in end-of-life care," Steele says. "And stop bureaucrats from getting between seniors and their doctors. A few things we should all agree on. The Seniors' Bill of Rights."

Report: Palin To Speak In Hong Kong
Former Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) will reportedly head to Hong Kong in September, speaking at an annual investor's conference for the brokerage firm CSLA. However, CNN notes that Palin's spokespeople could not be reached for comment, and in the past four months various conservative events have announced her as a speaker only for her to say she was not actually attending.
Obama Cuts Pay Increases For Federal Workers, Citing Economic Conditions
President Obama has cut federal employees' pay increases from 2.4 percent down to 2.0 percent. Obama invoked his power to do so in a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi: "few would disagree that our country is facing serious economic conditions affecting the general welfare."
Today: Primary In Special Election For California House Seat
Voters are headed to the polls today in California's safely Democratic 10th Congressional District, where Democratic incumbent Ellen Tauscher resigned to take a position in the State Department. All candidates are running on a single ballot, and one will be elected outright if they get a majority. Otherwise, the top candidates from each party will meet in a general election.
Kennedy Had Millions Left In Campaign Fund
The Boston Globe reports that Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) had $4.55 million in his campaign war chest, with no debts: "Now, the late senator's aides are left to handle the money in ways that specialists expect will be dictated by Kennedy's desires for his personal and political legacy, as well as strict campaign finance laws on how campaign funds can be redistributed."

There is little doubt this will be Faux News and other right-wing hate talk fodder at some point today. Probably Drudge Crap as well.

The meme of attacking things which are not in the healthcare bill will work as long as MSM goes along with it which is to say it will work for a very long time.
+1 thanks for not being Don Davis

One difference between Obama and Bush -- if W. had decided to do something like this, he would have scheduled the dinner for 6:00 pm!

The way the Repubs are pushing this senior bill of rights, the dems should make a big public display of saying they will incorporate the ideas of "no government rationing based on age" and "no government interference in end of life decisions" into their bill. We all know it's not in there anyway. And then the repubs will be faced with having to vote against a "bipartisan" bill. Imagine the political gain that could be had - they're always whining that the dems don't incorporate their ideas. Well, here's an "idea" that they're making a big deal about that was put into the bill - why didn't they vote for it?

"And stop bureaucrats from getting between seniors and their doctors..."
...unless those bureaucrats work for a health insurance corporation, in which case, those bureaucrats are doing God's work by making a profit for their shareholders... what are you, a socialist? Don't you like people making money? Are you against freedom? Don't you realize that to even criticize corporate bureacracies designed to fleece you while delivering nothing is tantamount to handing the nuclear football directly to Al Qaeda in Iraq? Death Panels!!!

I'd like to remind Steele that we already had THE Bill of Rights, when I and my family had all of our emails and phone calls monitored for the sole reason that they went through the AT&T switches in San Francisco, which AT&T had given Bush access to, in spite of the fact that there was no FISA court order.
If Republicans don't respect The Bill of Rights in the U.S. Constitution, you can be certain that this proposal is just more hip hop from Michael.
