The new Quinnipiac poll in Connecticut suggests that Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd could be beginning to climb out of the hole he's been in -- but he's still most definitely in it.

Former Rep. Rob Simmons, the GOP establishment favorite, leads Dodd by 44%-39%, down from a 48%-39% lead in July. The margin of error is ±3.2%

Dodd's approval rating is at 43%, with a disapproval of 49%, but this too is an improvement over his 42%-52% rating in July. In addition, 40% of registered voters say he is honest and trustworthy, compared to 51% who say he is not, up from a 35%-55% deficit in July.

From the pollster's analysis: "Sen. Christopher Dodd's approval keeps edging up, and he is bringing down his high negatives. For the first time in six months, his disapproval is under 50 percent, just barely."

Okay, CT'ers, somebody explain to me why so many people there have the ass about Chris? The Countrywide thing turned out to be a rabbit turd and I'm not seeing anyone else getting punished for running for President the way he is.

I think the reluctance is about his being so closely linked to the financial crisis as someone responsible for oversight, and who had a big part to play in the bailouts.

I'm assuming his problems are similar to Obama's; a reduced enthusiasm on the left and skepticism from the independents and moderates.

If we get healthcare reform he should be fine. The addition of all these clownish Republican candidates can't hurt either.

Dodd is going to be the face of Obama's financial industry regulatory reform. It's still a long time between now and the election and the Republican primary is growing by the day it seems.

And a competitive Republican primary is always a beautiful thing because it has a good chance of dragging the nominee too far to the right to recover any appeal to sane people in time for the general.

People say a lot of silly things in polls taken more than a year from the election.

The Republican slate is getting pretty big so hopefully the extreme right wackos will organize enough so their candidate wins the primary leaving CTers only one reasonable candidate: Dodd!

The teabaggers will be a problem for the Republicans all over blue and purple America because they are strong enough to win primaries but too weak to win the general.
