Linda McMahon, the CEO of Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment, has now officially resigned her position in order to run for Senate in 2010 against Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) -- joining a crowded Republican field, despite the NRSC's efforts to rally behind former Rep. Rob Simmons.

In her announcement video, McMahon introduces herself, touts her long experience in business, and pledges to run an unconventional campaign: "For starters, I won't be accepting campaign contributions from PAC's or other special interest groups -- and I will limit all contributions from individuals to $100. I think Connecticut deserves a Senator that isn't bought and paid for by the banks and Washington special interests."

To her credit, this is a pretty good video. Then again, another video of her has been making the rounds -- the sort of thing that might detract from her efforts to be taken seriously.

Here you can see McMahon in a WWE show, delivering a staged kick to a man's crotch:

Quick memo to Democrats: The same people who supported Al Franken for Senate don't really have a moral right to make fun of Linda McMahon.

Quick memo to Republicans: The same people who made fun of Al Franken don't really have a moral right to support Linda McMahon. (Or, for that matter, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Fred Grandy, or Ronald Reagan.)

Funny that she doesn't say what successful business she ran. And expect really slick commercials from McMahon considering the wwe has their own editing studio.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out - she has the money but the wwe also has a lot of bad press in the past and they have pushed the envelope in storylines, though now boast a pg approach (gee I wonder why).

Gosh, Eric, that's an awful lot of simple-minded moralizing at the end.  Circumspection w/r/t hyperbole is usually one of TPM's trademarks.

Besides, refugees from Joisy don't have a moral right to tell anyone else what their moral rights are.

So, Eric, you are telling us that Linda McMahon has a Harvard B.A. in political science (and the mind it takes to earn such a degree, and to graduate cum laude), like Al Franken has?

False equivalence much?

But her product, geared I would think to adolescents or at least watched by a lot of adolescents, is pretty unwholesome, featuring storylines about her husband drugging their daughter and marrying her off against her will. Or something like that. That's different than playing a buffoon.
