Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was asked by the Reno Gazette-Journal what effect Ted Kennedy's death will have on the health care bill -- and Reid said it would help.
"I think it's going to help us," said Reid. "He hasn't been around for some time," he added, seemingly in response to the (unstated) issue of Kennedy's vote getting lost. Reid also said the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee will have a new chairman, either Chris Dodd or Tom Harkin.
"He's an inspiration for us," Reid said of Kennedy. "That was the issue of his life and he didn't get it done."

Take cover as wingnut heads explode in the rush to condemn the "politicization" of Kennedy's death.
The fact that it has been Republicans who have "politicized" Kennedy's death will go uncommented on by the talking heads on cable TeeVee.

So, get it done, Harry.
And don't call it the Kennedy bill, unless it includes a robust public option.

There is an article over at the Huffpo that has Tim Johnson getting the Senate Banking Committee chair if Dodd chooses health. Huffpo calls Johnson the Banks Favorite Dem because he's virtually bought and paid for. Given the financial sector reforms Obama wants, I wonder if he could get Dodd to stay at Banking, though admittedly Dodd isn't too good himself on standing up to banks. Dodd might need to "get tough" on the industry in order to get re-elected.
