Here's a fun YouTube that's been making the rounds of the right-wing blogs, from an August 31 town hall by Rep. Norm Dicks (D-WA) -- in which a woman literally dared him to come down and take her money right out of her hand.
Here you see a woman describing the Dem health care proposals as an effort to "plunder" from some in order to satisfy arbitrary needs as determined by bureaucrats. "So here is my question," the woman said. "If you are so keen to forcibly take from one person to give to another, who you deem as needier than me. If you believe that it is absolutely moral to take MY money and give to someone else based on their supposed needs, then you come and take this $20 from me and use it as a down payment on this health care plan."
To Dicks' credit, he did have the beginnings of a good response in turning down the money: "I can't accept a contribution like that." The problem was that his delivery, perhaps thrown off by the cheering Tea Party types, was too weak and apologetic. If he'd been a little more sarcastic, it would have been a great snappy comeback.

Frank probably would have told her that she looks like she needs that money more than anyone else he's met, so he'll let her keep it.

Reminds me of my congressman's telephone town hall. I actually got the first question and plugged the public option, but I was followed by a conservative in full "I got mine, screw you" mode. She was going on about how "I have insurance because I've paid for it, and I don't want you to take that away and give it to someone who doesn't deserve it..." Never mind that none of that was true, it was the sense of entitlement that really got me -- if low-income people are dying in the street, it must be because they're lazy and they deserve to die in the street.

She acts as if this health care reform would tax HER more. It won't. No plan to do that.
Beyond that, if she's an average wage earner in America, she has access to roads, bridges, libraries, schools, police, firefighters, etc, etc, that she could never, ever come close to affording on her own. She benefits MIGHTILY from the taxation of OTHER people. They have handed over THEIR money so SHE can send her kids to public schools, use the library, have safe streets and so on.
If she is willing to end all contact with everything government has helped build, then she can cry about her money. Until that time, she's just being a major hypocrite and a female version of Scrooge.
