RNC Chairman Michael Steele has released a new statement condemning the House Democrats' upcoming motion of disapproval against Rep. Joe Wilson -- which Steele incorrectly refers to as a censure -- in yet another sign that the Republicans are closing ranks around Wilson:

"In another stunning example of hypocrisy, congressional Democrats are wasting taxpayers' time and resources on a legislative measure to censure Congressman Joe Wilson so they don't have to talk about their exceedingly unpopular health care plan. Without question, Joe Wilson made a terrible error in judgment and has wasted no time in extending a personal apology to the president. The president has accepted his apology.
"If we are going to march Members down to the well of the House to apologize, Joe Wilson is going to have to get in line behind Nancy Pelosi, who attacked the intelligence community who protects us, Charlie Rangel who cheated on his taxes, Jack Murtha - a walking scandal, and we all know how the Democratic leadership tried to protect William Jefferson.

"Democrats don't want an apology. They want a side show - something to shift the focus away from their government-run experiment on health care."

yes, stunning. not a justified use of time and money like, say, impeaching a president over a blowjob.

Poor Michael Steele. He tries so hard to look sane and relevant.

He's a double git to the GOP: for one, he makes it appear the Republican party isn't racist; for another, he verifies their view of the relative intelligence of African-Americans.

Same process they use with gov't: they insist it doesn't work; then when eleed, they make every effort to screw things up in order to prove that gov't doesn't work.

Fail. Why do we need another sideshow when we've got this asshat and his alter ego Sarah Palin?

Fail #2: GOP house members want him to apologize as well.

Fail #3: Is Wilson actually an immigration lawyer, or is he lying yet again in effort to distance himself from his lie that the president is a liar?

Inquiring ethicists want to know.

Fail #4: Wilson's wife asked, "Who was that nut?"

No, Bozo. The GOP has become one big sideshow. As a sideshow, they have to channel the freaks for attention.
All they do is wave their foam snakes behind the backboard as Obama lines up his shot.

Sadly, I think it is a sideshow - but a necessary one. The GOP really has become bratty 2 year olds. If you let this guy get away with this, all hell is going to break loose at next year's State of the Union address. To keep that from happening, they need a good spanking now.

Agreed. However, the spanking the Dems are recommending (disapproval) is hardly commensurate with the egregiousness of this historic insult. A full censure is called for, but I fear we won't get that with these lilly livered leaders (alliteration -- makes a good day better).

Ole Joe is raising more money than he ever thought possible. And this will continue after the House vote when he can whine a bit more and have a bit more clinking in his pockets.

So raise your glass to the idea that money buys votes because that's what ole Joe believes. Do I? Nope. I would advise the SC "anti-Republican" folks in South Carolina to converge on ole Joe's District and register anyone who will vote the Democrat in; and then get the vote out.

Side Show Steele says we want a side show? He's a textbook version of a side show.

If Steele doesn't want a side show all he has to do is to get Rep.Joe Wilson to apologize to the House for breaking the rules.

If he doesn't like the rules, he can work to change them. Until they are changed they should be enforced.

When you're the one driving the clown car, calling something a sideshow loses a lot of its punch.

Um, actually Mike I think they DO want an apology. Your guys seem more than happy to be supplying all the sideshow material, so you might want to look into that. By the way, how does Rush Limbaugh's butt smell these days?
