Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), the religious-right champion whose career became embroiled in the D.C. Madam prostitution scandal, says he is ready to be confronted with his personal issues during his 2010 re-election campaign.
"I have complete confidence in their (voters') judgment, their ability to look at those issues," Vitter told the Times-Picayune. "I think, quite frankly, character is displayed in a variety of different ways."

You know, Vitter is right. The reason he wore a diaper was solely to ensure that he didn't soil his soulmate with his personal fluids. Such selflessness shows true character!

Short Vitter: "I've (been) changed."

Diaper Dave, if a person's character could be conveyed as a color, yours would be brown.

For once I agree with him. Character is displayed in a variety of different ways and the repukes character in general is pathetic. Screw the little guy and don't help people. How is that good character? It's not even christian and they profess to support "family values", whatever that means, and are the "religious right." WTF!!! When are we going to get a real opposition party as opposed to these lying buffoons?

Michael has it about right. Vitter is trying to make people think that despite some of the things he's done, he still has good character. The reality of the situation is that time and time again, all the different things he's done have shown that he has absolutely the sorriest character I've seen in a long time since Tom Delay got kicked out of Congress.

MichaelA is right. It is defined in various ways. For conservative hypocritical Republicans. For everyone else? Not so much. One questionable act, and you deserve to rot in hell for eternity.
In other words, this is the zillionth example of IOKIYARism.

Must say Vitter is right. About character. But I just can't get past the diaper thing. Weird, but weirder still is that he didn't resign, apologize, and then hide in his house for at least 12 months. Diapers! Feeling uncomfortable just thinking about it. Not just the diapers but his complete lack of embarrassment. How does that work?

It's a republican character trait. Remember Larry Craig, John Ensign, etc., etc., etc. They must go to some type of indoctrination school to accomplish this character trait.

Yes Michael, forgot about the republican character trait. Couldn't get diaper image out of my head. So many genetic tentacles to consider aside from greed, dishonesty, and self-interest. Larry Craig with the "wide stance" is even, well maybe not, as creepy as Vitter. Actually creepier when you consider that Craig adopted the 3 young children of his wife from former marriage when he married back in 1983. Feeling uneasy yet?

By the way, I can't wait to see all the diapers at vitter's campaign rallies. It will be hilarious. Maybe that might embarrass him.
I still can't get the foley stuff out of my mind. Talk about uneasy and the repukes knew about it for years. Yuck!

In general, a very true statement. However, I'm failing to come up with a single way with which Vitter has displayed character. Unless being a selfish, inconsiderate ass counts as character.
Didn't think so.

Really? By praying aloud with your hired concubine before and after each session, for example?

I am not worried about your character David Vitter, I wonder if you are sane. Any adult that gets off wearing a diaper, there is something wrong with them. I bet your kids think you are crazy ass hell. Do they listen to you? I bet they do not. I don't want you voting on matters or war or peace.

Although we use the same word for both, there is a difference between "having character" and "being a character."
Or for those who like these things phrased a little more fancy, there is a difference between being a human being, worthy of the respect and care accorded a human being, and being a REALLY GOOD human being, worthy of a position of leadership and emulation.
I don't care if Mr. Vitter likes diapers (though I'd really rather not know about it, thanks.) But what makes him unworthy of a position of leadership is his decision to crawl to the top based on his condemnation of the foibles of others, while failing to recognize his own. People who disconnect from reality like that are just incapable of representing the interests of ordinary people.

Wow, root beer. Brings back memories as 10 year old brat. Think it was A&W. what happened to root beer? That and Orange Crush. Really liked them both, with all the sugar. I'd ask Vitter but think he's in the changing room. Loves the new velcro.

If Character is displayed in different forms, so is the lack of character. And Vitter definitely displayed the lack of character, morality and family values. I couldn't resist adding the latter two traits. Republican political mantra is. "don't do as I do, do as I say."

Ok, I finally have to wade in. Vitter is a horrible senator. And I suppose deserves to be made fun of for being caught with a madame and supposedly wearing diapers. But here's the thing, who cares about the diapers??! No, really. He's not sick for wanting to wear them. Or for enjoying them. Literally hundreds of thousands of people wear them because they like to. Shocking, I know. You're horrified. Guess what? everyone has something they like that others would find shocking. Why do we care, at all? As long as its consenting between adults, who cares? People that make fun of him for this, perhaps you like being spanked, or tied up, or you're a guy and you wear panties, or maybe you like your hair being pulled, or having sex in a nonmissionary position, maybe you like leather or lace, or being called names. There's a leather parade in New York coming up, guys prancing around on public streets. Are they sick, should they be ashamed?
Everyone has something. If we've learned nothing from Republican sexual hypocrisy, it's that.
You don't want him voting on matters of war and peace because he wears a diaper? What if he was just incontinent? Would you be okay with it then? What if he likes having his wife use a finger on him, would you be okay with it then? What if he likes French kissing - ewwwwwwww - would you be okay with him voting on war and peace then? But because of something he wears under his clothes that isn't your cotton boxers or tighty whities, he shouldn't be voting?
Is it strange? Sure. Is he sick? No. Are others who like the same thing? No. There are eight million reasons to ridicule Vitter's performance as a Senator. Why we are now suddenly the sex police - the job we always accused Republicans of wanting - is so strange to me. Variety's the spice of life, folks. Try something new.
Thanks for reading a rant.
