Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) just took to the House floor -- and did not apologize again for his "You lie!" outburst.
"Mr. Speaker, I think it is clear to the American people that there are far more important issues facing this nation than what we're addressing right now," said Wilson. "The President said the time for games is over. I agree with the President. He graciously accepted my apology, and the issue is over."
"However, this action today will have done nothing for the taxpayers, to rein in the growing cost and size of the federal government. It will not help more Americans secure jobs, promote better education, ensure retirement, or reform health insurance," he continued "It is the Democrat leadership, in their rush to pass a very bad government health care plan, that is bad medicine for America. It has muzzled the voices we represent and provoked partisanship.
"When we are done here today, we will not have taken any steps closer to helping more American families afford health insurance, or helping small businesses create new jobs. The challenges our nations (sic) faces are far bigger than any one member of this house. It is time that we move forward and get to work for the American people."

Joe, you actually went onto the floor, and then refused to apologize to you colleagues? Here's the thing, Joe: when you make a fool out of yourself, you can't really pretend to be a man of gravitas and principle anymore. We see what you are: a guy with a flash temper and bad judgment.

Your comment covered every point very well. Mr. Wilson was uncouth on the House floor and defamed the House of Representatives. Obviously, he has no concern for the rules or he would never have said that truly racist comment. Good for all Representatives, both Democrat and Republican who admonished him. His attempt to allow his conduct to stand would have confused young people who then might emulate his disgusting racist action, but now it is clear his behavior was inappropriate. Good for the House. I did not hear how many of my party's Representatives voted to condemn their fellow Republican Congressman but I trust many of them did so.

How, exactly, did bringing Bill Clinton up on blowjob charges address any of those issues?

Oh, well, see, the blowjob charges against Clinton were kinda meant to be a smokescreen to hide Mark Foley's escapades, and especially to hide Newt Gingrich's philogynizing and Ted Haggard's, y'know, difficulty with finding a good, deep tissue massage.

What?
"Mr. Speaker"? Was Pelosi not there?
And he's already on the floor...why not just apologize and get it over with rather than stand there, take time and then not apologize?
Just more posturing all the way around, and more evidence of why nothing of substance ever gets done.
Anyone wanna bet what he voted on the motion to "censure" MoveOn.org for the General Betrayus ad?

"However, this action today will have done nothing for the taxpayers..." Well actually it will. If we get rid of all the losers who are there because their constituents are too ignorant and backward to know the actual facts being voted on, if we get rid of guys like this one who just like being partisan while claiming the other side is, we might actually get something done for taxpayers. I don't think this is strong enough. It was bad enough at town halls and if we don't stop it in congress how can we hope the town halls or discussion will improve?

IOKAYAR There's is Wilson heaving a great sigh -- why are we wasting all this time -- it hurts our nation.
Well, guess what? Joe could have saved that time by apologizing to the House for breaking its rules. End of story.
But because Joe 'the rules don't apply to me' Wilson didn't feel like that he chose to take up more of the House's time.
If you don't like the rules, work to change them. Otherwise, follow them.

OK, I'm willing to bet that, somewhere in that place, there is a book with the Rules written in it.
Will someone do the public a favor? Grab that book, open it to the page that states the "Respect for President and Colleagues" rule he broke, and smack him upside the head with it? (Forgive my not remembering the name of the rule, please.)

Joe: By using the phrase "Democrat leadership", you again deliberately disrespected the majority of your colleagues, or you displayed a pathetic level of ignorance of the correct way to reference the opposition party.
There are sound reasons for requiring manners and decorum. The foremost are recognition that disagreement is assumed, but the interest of the public is served by ensuring that a reasoned debate be promoted in seeking a well considered decision by the majority of the elected body. You are not promoting a reasoned debate. You are promoting discord. You definitely deserve to be censored. And, if the members of your own party are sensible to the principles involved, they will also demand that your apology be addressed to them, as well.

Seems like a political draw. Those who favor Rep. Wilson's opinions will not be swayed by arguments of decorum, as such is not necessary when one has already decided one is going to disrupt debate.
I support the actions of the House. It needs to stand up for itself and reclaim its powers and why not begin today? Or do we ensure the next outburst is, how shall we say, more colorful?
I'lltellyawhut (one word), if these tighty-whities are upset now, they are going to be in tears for a long longer than 2012. Absent representation, perhaps they will return to what they used to do in politics.
They stayed home.

Does Joe understand that HIS actions initiated this 'waste of taxpayer's money and congress' time? doesn't sound like it.
The house must voice it's disapproval because otherwise
Joe and the other yellin', posturin', panderin' repubs would feel
emboldened, encouraged, even entitled to
do more of the same, every time the president is invited to speak.

To say nothing of his speech. Isn't it a little odd to go up and reserve time to complain that we're wasting time in a debate?
"Ms. Speaker*, I am here today to talk about the important subject, namely that the subject I am here to talk about today is wasting all of our time. There are so many more important things the Congress could be doing right now other than listen to me give this statement. I mean, my God. I am accomplishing absolutely nothing up here! Every added word makes it worse!"
* The transcript has Wilson referring to "Mr. Speaker". Is that a typo?

What about the MoveOn/Betray-Us vote? Hmmm...
Wilson wants to insult the President in front of 30 million viewers and then apologize in private. Interesting strategy. However what happens next time Obama is speaking in front of the joint congress and every no name Republican backbencher wants their fifteen minutes? If they were smart they'd have the foresight to apologize before hand, as to not get stuck on hold or get the busy signal afterwards when the 20-30 other hecklers are rushing to apologize.

So the measure condemning Rep. Wilson passes after being shredded by the GOP for "we can spend our time better than enforcing the rules such as health care."
The vote that followed concerned renaming an area from Manhattan, KS to the Columbia river for some wildlife habitat corridor, about which not a PEEP was heard in terms of wasting time on a voice vote...

"more important" is an incredibly asinine argument. If that were really the criteria the ONLY thing that could be addressed at any given time would be the absolutely MOST important issue. Of course there is no consensus on that.
I'd agree that Congress should focus on things that are "important" and I'd say that enforcing rules of decorum in the House counts as important. It goes beyond how the members act and interact; it goes to the tone of our political dialogue.
