Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) seems to be developing a one-track mind. At a hearing of the House Financial Services Committee, Bachmann asked Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke about...ACORN?
To be fair, Bachmann also asked about one of her other pet issues, the threat of a one-world currency replacing the dollar -- which does actually bear a relationship to the questions of monetary policy.
But here she has the man who runs our country's whole money supply, right in front of her and required to take her questions, and this is what she asks about?

A friend in Minnesota told me Bachmann worries him more than Palin because Bachmann is more intelligent than Palin.
Yikes squared.

I've got stuff in the vegetable crisper that's more intelligent than Sarah Palin and it doesn't scare me a bit.
Observe Bachmann's level of comprehension on the cap-and-trade issue:
“Carbon dioxide is a natural byproduct of nature!...There isn’t even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas.”
I repeat: Dork.

I suppose it must be people who just don't know any better.
It is likely just people vote for someone who acts like them and says the things that they are thinking, regardless of how incorrect and awful those things may be.

Her district kind of does it as a "screw you" to the state's otherwise responsible and reasonable politics. Minnesota government and elections are fairly pristine, compared to its neighbors in the midwest (Wisconsin is okay, Illinois and Ohio are undergoing major reforms).
The district is St. Cloud: a lot of commuters, as well as pretty much being a pitstop city between the twin cities and the north woods (where much of Minnesota hunts, etc.)
There's no reason why a responsible progressive couldn't win the seat, other than Bachmann is kind of a cash cow for the extremist base.

Bachmann wasn't asking a question; she was making a statement and didn't care whether Bernanke answered or not. He could have responded with the wisdom of Solomon but it simply wouldn't have mattered. She got her exposure for the day, and that's what counted.
