Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) appeared on the O'Reilly Factor last night, where she and O'Reilly discussed, among other things, how successful conservative women bother the left.

"See, I'm not getting -- to me, you're a conservative Republican from a Midwestern -- upper Midwestern state," said O'Reilly, "who speaks her mind articulately, does her job. Why are they coming after you? I don't get it."

"It may bother them that conservative women are happy and don't need government in order to be successful in life," Bachmann replied. "I have a great husband, great kids. I had a great career as a federal tax attorney. And I don't need government to be successful. And it seems like they have a stereotype for women and I don't fit in their stereotype."

It's interesting to see Republicans complaining that a strong and successful woman bothers the left -- considering that this is the same party that has called for Gen. McChrystal to put Speaker Nancy Pelosi "in her place."

What I have a problem with is that she thinks that what is good for her is good for everyone. That's great that she was able to have a "good life" without the help of the government; but not everyone is as lucky.

She actually needed the government to have a good life... she was a federal tax attorney.

**I'm sure the money the state paid her for her 23 foster children was promptly returned. LOL.

I thought the same thing when I read those two lines. It's amazing how politicians can contradict themselves in juxtaposed sentences and no one calls them on it.

Not only that: she likely would have had a very difficult time establishing herself as an attorney, or even getting into law school absent federal regulation prohibiting discrimination against women.

Of course. That must be it. We hate her for her successes.

Heh, even O'Reily had to have had an internal struggle saying that one without cracking up. Talk about placating your interviewee so that you get them to open up more.

She's a True Believer, and a Loon.

And, if I were Bachmann (or any woman)-- Billy Boy telling you that you're attractive would be a very large red flag. I assume he'll ask her next if she uses a Loofah at home when she showers.

She doesn't need government to be successful? Does she realize that she works for the government? Both this job and her previous as a Federal tax attorney?

How much rightwing talk radio/Tv these days is just this kind of self-congratulatory backscratching? I seem to recall that Republicans and the right used to deride this kind of self-serving pseudo-psychoanalysis, yet it now is part and parcel of everything they say and do.

Oh how the times have changed.

Huh? She doesn't need government to be successful? She claims to have been a very successful Federal tax attorney prior to becoming a Congresswoman. What part of her "success" was not dependent on government? At least O'Reilly is accurate in putting her in the same pod with Palin.

She's referring to the fact that if the state mental health systems were still operational, she wouldn't have been able to get out of the rubber room long enough to run for Congress. Therefore, an absence of government has led to her "success".

I would agree that not everyone needs sgovernment to be successful, but that is true for anyone regardless of their political tilt or gender. And in Bachmann's case in addition to two federal jobs (IRS and Congress) she was also a Minnesota State Senator so government has been very much of her career.

Successful women, whether they be conservative, liberal, or whatever, do not bother me a bit. Rabbit ass crazy women, whether they be conservative, liberal or whatever, bother me a great deal. I guess rabbit ass crazy people in general worry me a great deal. Michele Bachmann falls into the rabbit ass crazy category.

It seems that her biggest "success" was pulling the wool over the eyes of her constituents. There can't possibly be a majority of mouth breathers in her state coherent enough to continue reelecting her...can there?

Well, actually, there was this time when women attemptng to be in the places she is today were beaten, sexually assaulted and sometimes killed. It was the government that enabled her to reach the places she now takes for granted, a government "of, by, and for the people," which we, the people, clarified included women. Maybe her presence bothers the Left because she rejects the liberalism that made her "sucess" possible. It is government that predetermines there need not be a battle every time a woman seeks a position of importance. It is laws that guarantee her the opportunity, as fairly as can be practiced. Laws = Regulations, something she opposes, except when they are useful to her.

More self-righteous, self-congratulatory twaddle from a seriously deluded woman. I'm happy for her success, but her desire, along with that of her fellow travelers, to use their success as a cookie cutter for all else is what really bothers me. They are the sorts of people who will never acknowledge the advantages they received, or the luck that came their way. They truly believe that they did it all by themselves. Nor will they ever acknowledge their galling sanctimonious hypocrisy. As a rule I don't wish misfortune on others, but for her, I'll make an exception.

What bothers me about Bachman is not her "success" but her arrogance, obnoxiousness and sheer stupidity. One example: she says she doesn't need the government. Yet she is a former federal tax attorney who is now a member of the U.S. Congress. She is completely dependent for her livelihood on the government! It's just mind-boggling that someone so ignorant is considered a "leader" of anything.

"She is completely dependent for her livelihood on the government!"

No, she's not. She comes from a wealthy family.

(Surprising, I'm sure)

Er, is it too much to ask .... Rep. Bachman, former Gov. Palin, and others like you (I do NOT want to get to know them or how many there are) ..... if you're really so happy without any involvement in government, could I ask - respectfully, pleadingly - that you not bother with it. Okay? Then we can *all* be happy.

She's right about one thing: she and Palin and others of their ilk seriously bother me. I'm literally stunned, and very bothered, that they are anywhere near positions of power in this country.

I don't think much of Bill O'Reilly, but I do think he is fairly smart. I like to think he had to quell his gag reflex just a bit when he had to say, "Why are they coming after you? I don't get it."

I suppose that if I were a public figure known solely for saying and doing utterly stupid, petty and/or self-aggrandizing things every time there was a camera or microphone around, I too would consider the possibility that I "bothered" those who saw I was an idiot to be a huge professional triumph.
