A source tells TPMDC that "needless to say," President George W. Bush isn't going to issue anything about President Obama's Nobel Peace Prize win today.
"The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists -- the Taliban and Hamas this morning -- in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize," wrote DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse. "Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize -- an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride -- unless of course you are the Republican Party. The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It's no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore - it's an embarrassing label to claim."
While I think it's understandable that Bush wouldn't have anything to say, I also think he could do a lot in rehabilitating the Republican image were he to graciously congratulate Obama for this.
maybe rehabilitating his own image. The only way for it to carry over to the Republican party would be for the currently elected leaders of the party to follow suit. But they're already past the point of no return in the other direction.
Can't wait to see Cheney explain how the presentation of the Peace Prize makes us so much less safe in the world. I can almost see him now, rolling ball bearings in his hand as he talks with grave countenance about having to consider adding Norway to the Axis of Evil.

This is the world community throwing a shoe at Bush's head. There isn't much for him to say.

Part of me wishes he would.

I completely agree.
He could take another swipe at "changing the tone in Washington" by doing this.

If the rest of the World was extending its collective middle finger towards me, I'd probably not respond, either.
