Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), a leading right-wing voice in Congress, has endorsed Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in the NY-23 special election, instead of moderate Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava.

By our count, this makes DeMint the fourth sitting member of Congress to endorse Hoffman, and the first Senator to do so, following Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS), and Rep John Linder (R-GA).

DeMint said: "Too often, we're told that Republicans have to be like Democrats to be competitive in states like New York, Pennsylvania and Florida. But the truth is voters don't want to be forced to pick between two liberals; they want a real choice. If voters want to give Washington more control over our lives, they can always vote for Democrats."

As if anyone in upstate New York gives a shit what DeMint thinks.

This race has just become a sandbox for the rival factions of the GOP to fight it out.

What fun!

It's a bizarre spectacle. They'll regard a Democratic victory as a win for them since they will have dictated the terms.

Result: a democratic victory in a Republican stronghold and more influence (maybe) toward nominating unelectable extremists in the future.

Senator Creme DeMinthe? I heartily endorse this approach. Republicans should run blood red conservatives in New York, Pennsylvania, and Florida. All those states. The redder, the better!

I'm guessing Creme hasn't watched Toomey ostensibly wander to the center in his buildup to the PA election next year? If being a conservative was such a gosh darn wonderful thing, why is Toomey trying to look less like a conservative??
