Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) has sure become a hit with the liberal netroots base since his vociferous public attacks on the Republicans -- and the money is coming in for this scourge of the "foot-dragging, knuckle-dragging neanderthals."

"I can tell you that it really started to explode, I would say last night about five o'clock," said Julie Tagen, the Congressman's chief of staff and a senior adviser to his campaign. "And since that time, we have probably raised anywhere between $125,000 and $150,000 online."

Tagen said that it's not immediately clear how much of this money will be reflected in the upcoming third-quarter financial reporters, because the donations have been coming in continuously during a period when one quarter officially ended and another began.

I donated $25, and I urge you to do the same.

Yep. Went in for $50 myself. If I had a quick $1000 I'd have given it.

I'm just going to start doing that as a matter of course.

Giving to individuals like Grayson I mean. That truly stand for the right values. Screw the DNC, DSCC, and DCCC. When they show some leadership and party discipline, and pass the Public Option, I'll consider giving to them again.

Why do you think he's not backing down? Because he was flooded with supportive emails and $$$!

Damn right! It's encouraging, we can absolutely have an immediate impact on this debate.

Good for you. You just gave $25 to a man that equated poor health care with the murder of over 8 million people.

You all need to get out a dictionary and look up the word "holocaust". It wasn't just invented for what happened in WWII - that would be The Holocaust. I think Rep. Grayson was right on the money and perfectly within his rights to use that word.

I wonder how many other Democrats will decide that it pays to attack the Repubs where it hurts them.

One thing is obvious, though. This is going to be considered a real threat by the Repubs, so they will be attacking anyone who tries it. That is the normal Repub reaction to threats. Recognize potential threat, attack and occasionally follow up by thinking.

And I just turned down the DSCC this morning. I told them that as soon as they get Conrad, Lincoln, Baucus, and Nelson to pull their heads out of their asses (or words to those effect) I'd be happy to contribute.

He is me but an elected official. I would have layed it on the POH(party of hate) just the same. He got 50 bucks from me and I hope you help the cause.

And so marks the genesis of what may become known as the Grayson Effect.

Folks, this is a turning point. For decades, Republicans have been raising money by being dicks to liberals. Now it's payback.
If we want the Democrats in DC, reactive creatures that they are, to show a little spine, this is finally a simple, easy-for-them-to-understand method for showing them how it can pay off.

Alan Grayson will be getting some of my hard-earned money tomorrow (Payday). Any other Democrats who tell the Republicans where they can stick it will also get donations, ESPECIALLY if they avoid lying the way Republicans lie.

Van Jones was right. Republicans *are* assholes. But that doesn't mean that we can't *act like* assholes once in a while, for a good cause! (LOL nevertheless, what Grayson said was orders of magnitude more civil than the daily "the liberals want to take away our freedoms and DESTROY AMERICA!" crap we get from the right!)

Go, Rep. Grayson!

you're right -- 'knuckle-dragging neanderthals" is soft compared to "Nazi" "Hitler" or "fascist."

Calling someone a neanderthal is clearly an insult. Accusing someone of wanting to destroy the country, and saying it like you mean it, is hatemongering and fearmongering.

I don't think anybody could be whipped up into a gun-toting frenzy because they thought pre-australopithecus man had taken over the government...

Bragging about money will just raise money for his eventual opponent. The RCCC has made defeating Grayson one of their top priorities already, and Grayson is in a R+2 district.

If that's the case, I'm sending him more $. Shows a lot of courage to take a stand when you know you might lose the election because of it. I admit, I assumed he was from a safe, liberal district.

Well, Obama won his district by 5%, so he's got a chance of keeping his seat if the money keeps coming.

We get it Walter,

It is better to have a Democrat who does nothing while he is in Congress as long as the guy/gal has a (D) next to his name cause then we can say "we're winning" while not actually accomplishing anything at all.

Thanks for reality check.

I also donated $25. I wouldn't want all the Dems to act this way -- we need some conciliators and negotiators. But right now we have too few of the principled and fiery types and too many ready to compromise before they're even asked.

The Dems have been playing 'good cop/bad cop'. It just doesn't work so well when most of the bad cops have taken a leave of absence.

He's not knuckling under to those with under knuckles. It's great to see someone who's not afraid to tell it like it is. I was beginning to think that the mascot for all too many Democrats in Congress was the jelly fish (without stingers).

The more peevish Boehner becomes, the orange-ier his face seems to get. I love it! "What up John?"

I also contributed. I don't generally favor uncivil behavior, but I actually don't think Grayson's was uncivil, given that he is right that the Republicans are content to keep the status quo, meaning 44,000 deaths/year is 'acceptable' to them. This is opposed to the complete distortions Republicans used to accuse Democrats of wanting death panels, rationed care that would kill seniors, pull the plug on Grandma and tell seniors to drop dead (all real quotes from them).

They can dish it out, but they sure can't take it.

Just figured it out, folks. IT WAS A TRAP!

It was a huge joke on Republicans intended to make them laughingstocks. Damn near worked, too. Unfortunately, it was triggered prematurely by leftie bloggers innocently intending to defend Grayson by pointing out that Republican officeholders have hurled virtually identical inflammatory accusations at Democrats in recent months!

He is a Harvard Phi Beta Kappa who has hired Matt Stoller - a really net-savvy blogger. They cooked up a beautiful plan.

"die quickly" = (from a Republican) Dems telling old people to "drop dead"

"holocaust?" favorite meme of the anti-abortion crowd. Grayson even remarked regarding Rs indifference to "living, breathing, people."

What finally nailed it down for me was the CNN clip where he called Republicans "nattering nabobs of negativism." That was Spiro Agnew's most famous line ever!

Folks, he was praying that the Rs would try to censure him! He was prepared to show that he has been quoting Republicans throughout.

Unfortunately, well-meaning lefties like us triggered the alarm over at fascist central, the Rs withdrew their resolution, and they are going to try to let it quietly go away. Had that resolution been debated, it would have been a national joke.

I am going to repost this now at the bottom of every Grayson thread I can find. Don't feel obliged to rec every one, lol.

Actually, as we come to know more about the Neanderthals, it's not so clear that being called a Neanderthal -- although "clearly" intended as "an insult", is in fact insulting. In any event, I don't think that the Neanderthals were pre-australopithicenes. They were for a time contemporaries of Homo sapiens in Europe.
