Appearing this morning on MSNBC, Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) strongly rejected any comparison between his "Die quickly" attack on Republicans and Rep. Joe Wilson's (R-SC) "You lie!" interruption of President Obama.
"Comparing what Joe Wilson did to what I did -- it's not the same," said Grayson. "What I did is like a Bob Dylan protest song. What Joe Wilson did is like a belch."

Grayson needs to stop playing to the bloggers and realize that a lot of folks are tired of this ridiculing and name-calling. I guess he's angling for a talk show gig when he's defeated in 2010.

do you have any data to support your implied contention that this isn't playing well in his district or is this just you extrapolating your own feelings and projecting them on to his district?
grayson is a progressive and he doesn't need you and your kind to shame him into pretending otherwise. truth tellers earn the right to be trash talkers.

Sure bloggers think this guy is a virtual rockstar, he has a virtual cult following over at Kos. Blogs are echo chambers.

I need some of what you are smoking. One democrat finally grows some gonads and you think it's what America is tired of? He's humorous, articulate, and making some brutal observations. More importantly, his style is getting him on TELEVISION to make the case to a much larger audience. A nuanced thinker might observe that that he's really playing to a controversy driven MSM, not the blog-o-spheres. Every minute of air time he gets is a minute that isn't being used by an industry shill to scare grandmas.
Democrats normally don't win - they sit around and hope republicans lose. He's raised his profile immensely and is going into 2010 with better name recognition, an enhanced war chest and a reputation for fighting tooth and nail for his beliefs. Notice the GOP is having trouble attracting a serious candidate to challenge him. All but one of the identified top-tier republicans have declined the race so far. But they *do* have this guy:
I think he knows just what he's doing, and will likely be reelected quite handily.

Ooops ... late update on his race:
This should be a fun race. Webster was supposed to announce yes or no on Saturday - but still hasn't. Looks like the GOP is in for a costly primary bloodbath. Everyone is waiting for his next move.

Haha. This guy is a trip.
Maybe if the news casters weren't so busy with the ridiculous comparisons he wouldn't have to give ridiculous answers.

Hooray for Grayson.
It's about time we had some Democrats who spoke truth to power and stopped fighting the Republicans with nothing but "righteous indignation". They are evil; they are racist; they are un-American, and its high time someone called them out. Left to their own devices they would have guns in kindergartens; they would put oil derricks in the middle of the Grand Canyon, and they'd not bat an eye if banks charged the middle class 50% interest on credit cards while the top tax rate for multi billionaires was abolished. As Grayson said, they are the selfish party. I say they are also the racist party.

Grayson is tough and eloquent--a great combination to take on the Republican bullies, who love to beat up on the nerd in the schoolyard, but who go crying when a big kid with a big heart goes after them.
Americans are tired of the Republican bully game, and Grayson is showing what whiny little ninnies the Rs are. He's not apologizing either!

There is a ridiculously simple distinction here. Grayson had the floor and the mic. Wilson's interruption would have got him sent to the principle's office in Kindergarten.

Someone had to call attention to the fact that Repuglicans have no real interest in health reform after they had the nerve to wave their virtually empty sheets of paper during Obama's speech.
The Repugs have nothing, and all they want is a Demo failure, the public good be damned. They have no interest in what's good for America and it's citizens, only their own limited self interest as a party and a few health insurance giants.
